Customer Review: Super-Easy Upgrade for Asus 1000HE

If you're a bit squeemish about upgrading your RAM stick, don't be. You can see precisely how no-sweat a process this is, by running a search at YouTube for: Installing 2GB of RAM . I believe the first result is the 45 second clip which calmed my own nerves long enough to place the order for the OCZ module.
It bears repetition: When you boot up post-upgrade, keep punching the F2 key, which gets you to the BIOS screen. Once there, you'll see that the 1000HE recognizes the new 2g stick. Then hit F10 to save and exit.
Worthy upgrade. Good price!

From what people say, I'm sure this WOULD work in my Asus Eee PC 1000HE. Unfortunately, thanks to super saver shipping via USPS, I'll never get to test it. They don't know who the carrier was that day due to them preforming route counts, and they have no idea where my package got delivered. It was never delivered to my house, despite the tracking confirmation says it was. USPS does this ALL the time! We get everyone else's mail weekly! It's a total pain, and now I'm out the money. Works great, but it is irritating that there are no instructions.
When you remove the old memory, pay careful attention to the angle at which it pops out and make sure to insert this new memory firmly at that angle. When clicked into place you can feel the spring tension. After that just rescrew the cover and turn on the computer, works great. If you don't insert at the proper angle but try to do flat, the computer will not work at all -- the little flickering light on the cover stays off. Get the angle and spring tension right and it works great!

I got this to upgrade to replace my new Asus EEE PC 1000h's 1gb chip. There is a very noticeable improvement in the speed of a lot of operations including Firefox and MS Word. A free benchmarking tool bumped the total score from an 80 to 135, making the 1000h as good as a full size Toshiba Satellite laptop running a AMD 6400 dual core! It doesn't seem to significantly affect the the battery life one way or another. This is my second OCZ memory upgrade, the first one worked out great too. I bought this memory card because I didn't want to get stuck with a cute powerless netbook. I have never used my netbook without the 2Gig upgrade so I can't tell you how much of an improvement it has made. I will tell you that I'm a heavy Excel and Outlook user and these programs start off a bit slow; but after about a minute these two programs run pretty much at the same speed as my PC. I'm pleased with the memory performance but like everyone else reading these reviews I'm always looking to make the netbooks run faster.
