Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of OCZ 2GB PC2-5400 667MHz DDR2 Value SoDIMM Module (OCZ2MV6672G)Customer Review: Works great in Macbook Pro! Summary: 5 Stars
I installed 2 of these in my Macbook Pro running OSX 10.5.x and Windows Vista Ultimate 64. In vista it only showed 3GB of ram but the score was 4.9 on the memory speed test. In Mac I get the full 4GB.
For the price you cant beat this upgrade. Concidering that Apple wants to charge 10x as much you cant go wrong with the upgrade.
How to install it on a Macbook Pro:
Power down the laptop.
1. Remove the battery
2. locate the plate where the battery removal switch is (flat shiney plate)
3. Use a small Philips head screwdriver (size 0) to remove the 3 tiny flat topped screws.
4. You'll then see the memory behind that plate. The trick here is to be firm when installing it. Don't smash it in but use consistent pressure to push the memory in then click it down. If you do it right both chips will line up. If it doesnt look straight then it isn't. Take it out and try again before powering up.
Customer Review: Quick 'n Easy Summary: 5 Stars
I've never upgraded any physical components in a computer before, so I'll admit to being nervous about breaking something, but I have to say it was really very quick and easy.
I have an Asus 1000H and the other reviewers are correct - you just unscrew the back, unclip the old module, slide it out, slide the new one in and gently push it down until it clicks into place.
Just to be safe, I went into the BIOS and I noticed the RAM was showing as 1.99GB.
I did all this during a commercial break while watching TV last night!
The computer isn't SUPER fast, do don't expect any huge increase in speed, but there is definitely a noticeable improvement - specifically, programs load and close quicker and virus scans were also a lot faster (always a plus in my book). I haven't tried any kind of multimedia rendering yet but I anticipate that being quicker too.
Definitely well worth the money :)
Customer Review: Did not work in my EEE PC Summary: 1 Stars
Beware! I bought this with my EEE PC 1000 like I'm sure many other reviewers did. Some reported good success with it - I am not one of them. After installing the RAM I booted into the BIOS and saved the setting, yada yada, restarted, and as soon as I would load into Xandros the system would crash with visual artifacts onscreen. It did this repeatedly - no successful boots. I know Xandros is not setup for 2gb RAM by default, but nobody has reported instability with this setup - they just usually need to do some work to get the full 2gb recognized. I replaced the original RAM and the system runs flawlessly again. I came back and read some other reviews here, did some research online and concluded that this memory is probably not the best choice for the EEE PC. Try the RAM with same specifications from A-Data - apparently this is the same brand Asus uses in this system. It's same price or cheaper, too :D
Customer Review: I Don't Know If It Works Well Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased the memory stick as an upgrade for an Acer Netbook I purchased at the same time. Amazon advertised it as fast and easy to install. Not true. Installation required taking the entire netbook apart. I was afraid to try it myself after viewing a video on how to upgrade the unit. I took it into a computer store to be installed. I was informed that it was more memory than the netbook could handle and that the memory stick would not fit. Amazon took the memory stick back and reimbursed me for the charge from the computer store. It was not a pleasant experience but I think Amazon realized that the problem was with their advertising. The two items never should have been sold together. It would help to have a technician verify that electronic products which are tied together in advertising actually work together before the advertisement is placed on the internet.
Customer Review: Installed on Acer Aspire One 10.1" D150-1577 - works great Summary: 4 Stars
I was able to install this 2gb RAM on my Acer Aspire One 10.1" laptop with relative easy. Unfortunately, Acer doesn't provide upgrade instructions and all of the step by step how to's on the internet are for an different model of Acer Aspire One. Fortunately, you do not need "crack" open your notebook to get to the RAM on the 10.1" D150 version of the Aspire One. One the bottom of the laptop there is a panel (which happens to be just larger than the RAM chip) with one screw that you can easily open and then install the 2gb RAM chip (be sure to remove the battery and use a grounding strip or ground yourself before attempting the install). After install the 2gb RAM, my laptop started up and recognized the 2gb RAM. No other actions were required to get it working right.
