Customer Review: Great Update for the 1000HE!
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently purchased the 1000HE and upon doing so, also purchased this OCZ 2GB memory upgrade. After receiving both items, I immediately upgraded the Asus 1000HE with the 2GB before booting the system for the first time.

Many users here who upgraded their 1000 series devices are right in first booting up to the system's BIOS by pressing F2 for the computer to recogize the RAM. The 1000HE recognized the 2GB with no problem, and after saving the BIOS configuration, proceeded to boot into Windows XP flawlessly with 2GB of recognized on board RAM.

For those who are interested, this RAM is perfect for those who wish to use the 1000 EEEPC series for Windows 7. I'm currently running 2GB of RAM in Windows 7 with no page file, and have yet to max out the RAM. I tried to max out the RAM by running 3 Firefox windows, Photoshop CS3, Sony SoundForge, 5 pdfs, 5 Word documents, and 3 Powerpoints simultaneously, which all lead to about 1.4GB of ram with enough to spare for other applications. Clearly, having this upgrade will help multiple programs run simultaneously without a problem. On average, Windows 7 uses approximately 900MB of RAM out of the available 2GB for my applications and daily use. Boot up of the system and programs from a cold start such as Word 2007, Powerpoint 2007, are VERY FAST (approximately 3-5 sec), at least in comparison to my old dv1000 with 2GB of RAM.

With the price of this RAM ($14 after rebate), it's definitely worth the investment to boost system perforamce (Asus 1000HE).

Customer Review: Instant power
Summary: 5 Stars

Purchased the OCZ during Amazon's last super special. Installed the 2gig memory into an Acer Aspire One D250. Turned off the computer, removed the battery. Let sit for a few minutes to disspiate any leftover charge. Found a philips head screwdriver that fit...have to be careful with screwdriver selection. Wrong sized tip can easily deform the soft screw head...its on pretty snug. Popped open the cover (its the one in the middle). The old memory chip is held in by two chromed rails, one on each end. Pull the ends of the rails outwards simultaneously and the memory chip pops up at a 45degree angle. Ground myself by touching something metal. Removed the old memory. Next lined up the new memory into the slot (can only go on one way with the slot on the memory board facing the front of the computer) and wiggled it down until the brass contact points disappear. Pushed down the memory and the two chrome rails snapped into place with its tiny nubs falling into the memory board cutout on the sides. If the memory is not seated all the way down, these rails do not lock down.

Put the battery back in and fired up the computer. After it has finished booting, hit control-alt-delete to bring up the task manager. Look under the performance tab and noted the acer recognized the memory; proudly displaying 2086780! Could not be easier. Only problem was getting the proper screwdriver head to fit.

Customer Review: Memory errors
Summary: 1 Stars

I have an ASUS 1000/XP which I upgraded to 2GB with this memory. After a while I noticed that my laptop was becoming unstable. Initially I had an occasional crash with Google Chrome and sometimes Firefox. But it seemed that the problems were getting worse when the laptop was getting warmer. The problems were quite unpredictable because it seemed that I only had occasional problems with browsers, not with applications.

Then I decided to check the memory with memtest86. Immediately it found a number of errors. I then replaced the 2GB with the original 1GB and ran the memtest for a while night; no errors. I haven't had one single stability issue after going back to the original memory.

What's disturbing is the unpredictability of the errors. Because the problems only occurred when the laptop was getting warm, I don't have the impression that the memory is really defective. Instead, I have the impression that the memory is simply bad quality. At least for my ASUS....

UPDATE 3/21, I purchased Kingston 2GB and it has worked flawlessly since then......

Customer Review: not happy at all
Summary: 1 Stars

Update 10/17/2008: Check out the comments section for the fix to this issue. I raise my rating from one to two stars. I will not give anymore because of the frustration and my time wasted with no help from their tech support dept. on the most simple of fixes.

I ordered this upgrade for my newly purchased Asus 1000H mini-laptop and I am not a happy camper. The RAM does not show up in my computer's BIOS as 2GB and I think they sent me a 1GB stick that was labelled 2 GB. Customer service is horrendous. Answer your phones people! I just want the memory I paid for...
I have wasted so much time on something that should have taken 15 minutes. Replacing RAM in laptops is as easy as it gets, but not when the product does not register correctly and you think you are retarded.
This is the worst purchase I have ever made on Amazon. Check out my other reviews. I like everything. It takes alot to disappoint me, but faulty product with no tech support equals unhappy customer.
I should have went with Kingston. They are the best. Lesson learned.

Customer Review: Not for the Asus Eee PC 904HA
Summary: 1 Stars

This RAM, offered as a bundle deal with the Asus Eee PC 904HA, is a bad move.

For whatever reason (I believe it may have something to do with the Asus's power saving features), after installing this RAM, the netbook would only boot up about 50% of the time, would almost always (>80%) crash and show artifacts on screen after closing windows, and would turn zombie if put to sleep, never waking up until holding the power for 10 seconds, forcing the machine off and having to hard boot again.

These problems only occured while running on battery, not while plugged into an outlet, with the exception of the boot up problem, which was hit or miss either way.

I toyed with the BIOS settings, windows settings, all of it, trying to find an answer, but eventually gave up and went back to the original 1gig stick that came with the netbook, and it's worked fine ever since.

So just beware if you're planning on buying this with the 904HA... it's nothing but a headache.
