Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Nyrius NY-GS3200 5.8GHz 6 Channel Wireless Audio/Video Sender Transmitter & Receiver System with IR Remote ExtenderCustomer Review: Great, solid product Summary: 4 Stars
Well, I read numerous reviews, mostly favorable, and I took the plunge. I really was not expecting much from this device but I had high hopes. I needed to send video from one cable box to a TV in another room. The reason I feared this may not work is that the box was in a lower level room and the tv was in an upstairs bedroom. Thus the signal would have to go through a ceiling, an outside wall, a bathroom, and then to the receiver in the bedroom. The TV in the bedroom is old so it only has a coxial input (the receiver/transmitters have rca connections) so the receiver had to then run through a rf modulator before going into the tv. When all was said and done, IT WORKED! The picture is great as is the stereo audio. I used the IF extender cable to the box and can control it from the bedroom on the second floor (the infrared extender works on a less powerful frequency than the audio/video 5.8ghz but generally works very reliably- sometimes repeated pushes needed). I have noticed a VERY seldom flicker or breakup but this is incredibly infrequent. The picture really is great. This won't carry HD signals obviously but should work well for all digital satellite and cable systems with RCA outputs on the box. There is no interference from 2.4ghz wireless routers, phones, microwave, other 5.8ghz devices.
This is one case where I had doubts but kept my fingers crossed and relied on reviews. It paid off.
Suggestions:
1. A coaxial output on the receivers would be nice- oh well
2. RESULTS MAY NOT BE TYPICAL!! If you have odd configurations of rooms, lots of rf noise and interference in your neighborhood, conflicting devices running on 5.8ghz, you may not get the reception you need.
3. These don't appear to be incredibly heavy duty- hope they last awhile. So far so good (Update= 2 years and still going strong!)
4. They can get warm and do take up electricity. Not a green geek but I have both units on cheap timers that turn them on/off at times when I am likely to watch.
5. Only the absence of a coaxial input/output hold it back from 5 stars. Otherwise, this is a great product!
Wii Update- This also throws Wii audio and video to another TV in another room without having to move the Wii console (as long as you are within range of the Wii remote's bluetooth signal to the console, which seems to be pretty far, and you have a wireless Wii sensor bar- uses batteries and is available at Gamestop for $19.99). Test the distance of your Wii remote by turning on your Wii console, take the Wii remote to the room with the TV you wish to remotely play Wii on, and try turning off the Wii console. Go back to the Wii console and see if the power is off. If it is, this is a good sign that your Wii remote bluetooth signal is strong enough to enable this remote play setup (although not guaranteed!). My Wii console is in a family room and I can play the Wii in the basement when needed using this setup. You may also find it easier to have 2 sets of Wii A/V cables that you just leave hooked up to your main TV and the 5.8ghz transmitter so you can switch back and forth a bit easier- you just have to plug in the A/V cord into the back of the Wii depending on which TV you wish to play on.
