Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Nike SHJ020 Lightweight Neckband Headphone - BlackCustomer Review: Disappointment - and I really really wanted to like these! Summary: 1 Stars
Ugh, after trying many kinds of headphones for exercise I decided to give Nike a try.
Here are some observations:
*The cord comes out the back of the headphones - not sure why this is an advantage, as I don't clip my ipod to the back of my shirt. What ends up happening is that the cord will go around your body on one side or the other, causing the headphones to be jolted out of place.
*Any movement of the head at all will cause the earbuds to pop out of your ears.
*They are so light weight that the back of the headphones rests on my neck, which sucks because they don't fit right.
I don't know, I was just expecting a lot more - these headphones need to have more 'force' in pushing against the sides of one's head. I recommend the following as a good solution (only drawback is their price): http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PMX70-Stereo-Neckband-Headphones/dp/B000FJD5IA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1244001320&sr=8-1
However, they have come down in price over the years. They used to be 40, now they're 25, so good luck.
Customer Review: Disappointed Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this to wear while working. I'm a farmer, and wanted something that would stay in my ear while bending, lifting, and generally being pretty active outside. I was looking forward to using them cross country skiing this winter. The iPod ear buds are constantly falling out, so this seemed like a good option I could use without being in the way with a hat and sun glasses on.
But this doesn't stay in place any better than the ear buds. The wire in the center in back pulls the loop down and pops the buds out, and there isn't enough spring tension to hold it in place. I finally started using it upside down, so it comes over the ear instead of under, and it's better that way, but far from perfect.
It was a $20 gamble, but I'm disappointed in the functionality. I don't think they would stay on my head for 30 seconds when running or x-c skiing.
Sound quality is pretty good in those rare moments that both buds are in my ear.
Customer Review: Nike changed it!!! Summary: 1 Stars
This is my third time purchasing this product. I loved the first two I purchased. I was running 5-6 days a week with it rain or shine. The first one last ~6 months. The second one lasted a little over a year. Putting of the tiny/thin spongy cover you can find at most stores (Apple store game me a pack w/ several of those for free) seem to help with the longevity... and sounded a little better. For what it's built for, and the price I paid, I was 100% satisfied. It never fell out no matter how hard I ran. Due to injury, I didn't run for 2 years. I just started again so naturally I ordered another one. Unfortunately, Nike changed the material used to construct it sometime in the last 2 years. It now uses softer/flimsier material that won't hold its form. I can't even walk down the sidewalk without it falling out of my ears. It's totally useless. I don't understand why Nike changed something that worked so well.
Customer Review: Mine Broke Too Summary: 2 Stars
I had the problem others have mentioned. Within a month, I accidentally caught the cord on something and now there's only sound on the left side. $20 down the drain. I liked the headphones, but surely they could build that connection to the jack to withstand another month of use.
******
Edited to add that I'm a slow learner. I liked the style so much, I bought another couple of pairs of these headphones. Every single pair broke at the jack within a month or two. The last pair, the metal jack itself pulled right out of the cord. They are a piece of junk. I don't know which irritates me more--that I'm dumb enough to have kept buying them or that the company would make such poor quality headphones. The Nike affiliation implies that they know you will use them while moving, but they are doomed to break if you do. I would lower my rating to 1 star or less if I could.
Customer Review: Nice Headphones while they last... Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased these headphones for jogging/biking. Since it's spring again, I decided to go off for a jog, then the headphones stopped working. I only get sound in one ear now, it wasn't even raining or anything. The headphones simply stopped working. I would recommend going with something well built such as a Sony.
However, the good news is, I contacted Nike/Philips and they are sending me a new pair. Hopefully this pair doesn't fall apart.
UPDATE:
December 2010:
My 2nd pair (that Phillips sent me) finally fell apart. Unlike the first pair sounds works in both ears, but the actual plastic ear pieces (that piece of mesh inside) and the whole siding well apart. I only use these for indoor casual use so it is not failing under normal circumstances.
