Customer Review: What a COOL Scanner!

I first saw Neat Receipts on a tech show on HGTV. Thinking this could finally solve the paper jungle that lurking in my home office. Looked all over since it was new to market but found it on the shelf of a local office store. My wife said, why do you need that? Cause I want it, I replied as I ducked.
Made the purchase, got it home, and installed. Did not have any issue, was amazed of all the info it picked up and placed into the correct fields. NR was great about informing me of any updates. Always upgraded and was pleased every time! The only glitch I ran into was when I purchased a new laptop with Vista. At first NR was not supported by Vista, but was told there was an upgrade in the near future. Sure enough, they came through with a better upgrade. Problems solved.
My ever so skeptical wife asked me to install on her new computer and now swears by it! She even managed to let go of the paper. As far as speed, one reviewer said it took eight hours to scan 40 receipts. Don't know what kind of clock they were using. Sure if you have a boatload of receipts, it is going to take some time. Kind of fun getting organized and getting rid of all that paper. Searching for a receipt is just as easy.
Hats off to NR and their company, a job well done......

I bought this primarily for use scanning business cards, and some occasional receipts. I've been disappointed so far.
- For those who suggest that I should look at NR Business cards, sadly, you cannot have both applications running on the same machine. If you try to install both, neither will function. I confirmed this by talking with their tech people.
- Scanning is "OK", but it doesn't do well with decorative fonts. You'll need to proof read everything.
- electronic tech support is abysmal. When you submit a question, you get an automated list of items in their FAQ DB to review. Sounds like a good idea, except that the FAQ is only ~60 items in the first place. Having already checked it, I wanted an *actual* answer. More infuriating, though, is that at the end of their automated response, it says "if this doesn't answer your question, scroll down and click on the 'finish submitting question' button. The button doesn't exist.
There are multiple minor technical bugs, which led me to call their tech support people. If I understood the perons I spoke with, this 'product' is actually a college project for a professor, and he has his students working on it. Hardly what I'd call world class development.

My neat receipts scanner really helped organize our monthly bills. We put most of our monthly purchases on a credit card that we pay in full at the end of the month. I used to manually type each receipt into an excel spreadsheet. With Neat Receipts, I can scan all of the receipts for our purchases and export the data. It is so much easier.
The scanner does a good job of recognizing almost any receipt that I scan in, unless it is somewhere local. If it doesn't automatically recognize a store, it is very easy to enter the name and the next time you scan a receipt from that store, it will be recognized.
There is a small problem with scanning of restaurant receipts if you enter a tip and update the total by hand. The amount recognized by the software will be the amount before the tip. This isn't a big deal. It is very easy to change the amount.
The only real negative that I have encountered is the Software version 3.0. It is pretty slow to open at times and seems to use a lot of system resources. Version 4.0 is coming out soon and is supposed to be much improved in performance. I look forward to updating.
I would definitely recommend Neat Receipts to anyone trying to get organized.
Customer Review: NeatWorks 4 and Quicken Deluxe 10 not compatible

Bought this the other day and mechanicanically it works fine. I thought it would have an auto feed, (ie Insert receipt and device would start)? but you still have to click buttons to get it scan.
The main reason I purchased this was to scan reciepts for use in Quicken. I was thinking seamless integration, but reality was far from it. Intuit hasn't allowed Neatworks use of its QDF liscense. Neat Works software does an admirable job of OCR on reciepts. reads sales tax lines etc, But can only export in QIF. Quicken deluxe 10 only credit card, bank accounts to work in QDF. Ideally they would be in the same file format. We could import from Networks to Quicken and reciepts would find their home in whatever matching account they might be registered in. That for now is only a dream. Now this device is merely a scanner that does and admirable job. NeatWorks support wasnt stellar. Their posted solution is to create a cash account in quicken and export entries there. So entries would be correct but just not in the right account? Uhhhh, what do we do for reconciling the account? Silly.
As it stands, I can have digital copy of the reciept in my Quicken matched to the entry, but nothing is OCR'd. Yawn.
Customer Review: Neat Receipts - Saved my job and my marriage

What a lifesaver. As a salesman, I am on the road constantly...and expense accounts have always been a problem. My wife finally asked me to get my own credit card and bank account to keep them seperate. And so far as my business...I have always recieved a 4.5 on my yearly reviews...never got the full 5.0 until I purchased the neat Receipts Profesional. My ding was always..."Late Expense Accounts" I have been known to be 9 months late before....Yaowwwwwww. So now it is a breeze and my company allows me to turn in my expenses on the NR standard program. I have been tempted to integrate it into our system...but have not done this yet. NR Pro does have the capability to integrate data into another program... but hey, I'm just glad to get them done. I have had great support with both my scanner and the help line. Once my computer screwed up and NR helped me get my database working again...even though it was a uSoft issue. All in all, I am very pleased with this machine...as is my wife boss, and most importantly, our CFO. ,NeatReceipts Professional Mobile Receipt and Document Scanner and Software Combination Version 3.0
