Customer Review: Used it for years; can't live without it.

I really can't understand the real negative reviews some have given -- makes me wonder about their depth of computer acumen. I've used this product for years and have recommended it to fellow road warriors who also love it. It saves my neck being able to find receipts that I might need to get a refund or print up to get expenses reimbursed. Its OCR is as good as any -- especially considering the state of some of my receipts. I often have to adjust the image and have it reanalyze for some of the receipts that have faded too much. But it does a good job of this.
But there are some reasons I can't give it 5 stars. They need to improve the reporting engine so you can ask it to find all receipts with multiple criteria and have it search through the whole database instead of just selected folders. This functionality shouldn't be too hard.
But you have to give the company credit. They are currently (as of July 2008) have a beta project running to scan directly in to MS-Office applicaitons. And they often ask for you to send receipts that didn't scan well to them so they can improve their OCR (at least once / year). So this is a company continually improving their product.
In fact, I've just about stopped using Scansoft Paperport from Nuance because this program is more convenient. Just make sure to schedule database backups to happen automatically.

I purchased this from costco, installed it in about 15 minutes. Program is super easy to run, very intuitive. I am using the product for my small business to do away with all the paper that accumulates. I loved this version so much, I purchased the 4.0 upgrade yesterday and within three hours gave up on the 4.0, uninstalled it and went back to the 3.0 version. The 3.0 version is much easier and faster to use. You can scan multiple pages for one receipt, not so on the 4.0 version. The 4.0 version was cumbersome, not as intuitive and much slower from scan to file. I will happily stay with the 3.0 version. UPDATE I have reinstalled 4.0 and am very happy now! I was using 3.0 and scanning a ton of documents, I was using the smart scan, which was fine, but limited to 50 sheets before you have to file the documents. Since I am scanning in hundreds of pages, I thought I would give 4.0 another try. With the 4.0 Quick Scan I have unlimited scans before I have to file the documents, receipts, etc. I can quickly combine pages into one document and file. It is easy to select the file or create a new file if you need to. One thing I did not like about 4.0 was that you were not able to scan multiple pages from the Receipt tab, you have to use the Quick scan and combine the pages before filing, I guess I now have the hang of it and it is no longer a problem for me. I don't know what the deal was with the person that said he scanned 40 receipts in 8 hours; he must need a new PC or something. I scanned about 20 receipts in about half an hour or less and this includes filing everything. It doesn't automatically file, but it does automatically recognize vendors and what kind of category that should be placed in. It sometimes makes mistakes on finding the correct total cost of purchases on a receipt. I've had issues with it scanning to PDF; a reboot of my PC usually fixes it. The Search feature is sweet; very easy to find past receipts! I tried backing up using the built-in backup feature, and the software froze up; haven't tried it again since. I paid for the Ver. 3 software package to save some money and they sent me Ver. 4 for the same price and when I installed it, gave me the option to upgrade to the latest. It comes with a stand to stand it up vertical that takes up less desk space and will even scan the receipts that way. It also comes with a wall mount which I haven't tried.
The business card scanner feature it kinda cool too. It recognizes the address and puts everything in the correct fields for easy searching later.
It's a wonderful product and I have recently recommended it to a family member. I only gave it 4 stars because of all the minor problems I had, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.
Customer Review: Very Buggy and Neat Receipts Charges You to Upgrade Software In Order to Use on Windows 7 or Vista

I have used this product as well as others by this company. And my experience has been the same with all of them. For one thing the program is buggy and crashes a lot on the XP. And that is with a powerful pc. I often had to go to task manager to end the program and then go back and do it all over again. Often the receipts read wrong on the totals. I often had to go back and correct them. You see, most receipts are set up so that it does not give a proper read-out. There are a few receipts from certain retailers that work well with the system but most do not. It is not only annoying but time-consuming when you have to re-scan an item. Then you have to go in and correct the totals which came out a digit wrong or an extra digit has been placed. Often the dollar sign is read as a digit. The biggest problem to me is the fact that you have to purchase a patch just so that you can use the software on a newer operating system such as Windows 7 or Vista. In my case I cannot use the hardware on my new computer. Rather than buying the software I purchased a new scanner that does not charge for the patch. And with my new scanner I don't get the buggy effect. So, thank you, Neat Receipts, for educating me about how greedy some of you companies are. I guess your bottom line is more important than your customer's satisfaction. I will no longer purchase any of your products.Customer Review: Just what I needed in my 5 Stars
NeatReceipts Professional Mobile Receipt and Document Scanner and Software Combination Version 3.0Two years ago while on a flight I was thumbing through a magazine and saw NeatReceipts. The more I read about it I knew it was just what I needed to scan in my contracts, save as a PDF file and then email them to my clients. I'm a real estate agent and this is perfect to use in my business. After returning home I searched the internet and found it for a reasonable price.Installation was easy. I followed the directions and it was up and ready in just a few minutes. I couldn't wait to try it.. Yes, it worked!!
My husband is self-employed and I get to keep records of all his stuff. It was a pain until I got NeatReceipts and now I don't have to worry about keeping up with all those receipts, I just scan them into the right category and then I can pull them up any time I want to. At the end of the year I printed all the reports and took them to our CPA. It has saved me a lot of time. When an update comes out I install it and it just keeps getting better. Yes, once in a while it will hang up but that is miner compared to what it has done for my life.
