I purchased this unit around Christmas, and gave my Magellan GPS to my kid.
What a piece of junk, I just installed the software update and held my tongue prior to the first update, I thought I'd give Navigon the benefit of the doubt.
It's approximately 1/8 to 1/4 miles off of every turn, I've missed nearly 50 turns so far, and finally put it on 2D overhead view (zoomed out) so I can guess where my turn is. Simple off ramps aren't too bad, but this thing falls apart on complicated mixmasters and it CONSTANTLY routes me incorrectly, for instance, it seems to read many streets as one way, so it routs me across the street to loop a block when a simple right turn would suffice.
From the moment you turn this unit on, it has problems, you have to hold the on button down for 10 seconds if it's turned off to turn it on, then it takes 2-4 minutes to lock on to the satellites. Add the missed turns on your trip, the useless voice prompts because it isn't loud enough to overcome ambient noise in all but luxury cars, and the 10 second button push to turn the thing off before stowing it in your bag, and it just hurts to use the doggone thing.
I'm a fan of gadgets, and have thousands of dollars worth of small gadgets laying around and this is easily the worst product I've purchased in years.
Run, don't walk to a different brand.

This is a great product from Navigon with lot of pros and few cons ;-)
Pros -
1) Realtime view - This is an awesome feature that is only provided by Navigon which shows number of lanes (exactly same as fwy boards), I just love it.
2) Speed limit - Gives a Caution indication to driver if speed is exceeded by 5/10/15/20 miles. (we can set the warning)
3) Turn by turn list - Gives turn by turn with street name with 1/2 mile remaining towards the turn.
4) 2D/3D view - Excellent 2/3D views. We can set Day/Night display mode.
5) Traffic Indication - Excellent feature, saves a lot of time if there is a traffic on FWY and asks if you want to opt for alternative route.
6) POI's - Number of POI's to search as well as they are displayed on screen while driving. (This saves time to search).
7) Excellent looks, excellent windshield
Cons-
1) Takes time to start and to load maps. For me it has always shown me insufficient signal when I switch it on. But after 5-7 mins, it's good to go. So better switch it on sometime earlier.
2) Takes time while recalculating, to display turn by turn list.
3) Tapping on the Screen is not so easy, u have to press hard...i'm not sure but may be I'm still facing that problem
Overall, this is a great product for it's price. I'm enjoying it. :-)

I had an old magellan so, i needed a new gps unit. I did an extensive research on all the units and were still undecided so, i decided to buy a garmin 350 nuvii and the garmin 5100 both for smiliar price.
The garmin is good very fast when calculating the routs but, its too simple 4 my liking . The drawings look unprofessional like a kids drawing. But, if u just wanna go to ur destination its the best gps but, if u want features like my self Garmin the way. Great interface, superior software by pretty accurate and stylish, but my problem is the volume is sooo thats the main problem cuz, i like to blast my music sumtimes but, atleast u dont need to hear the voice all the time cuz it shows the nest turn.
The zagat points of interests are , it tells u a little about each nightlife location which is greatttt.
What finally make me pack up the garmin and finally sending it back was the turn by turn lists, u need this incase the sattelite malfunction. Navigon gives u several turns on one screen without any need to scroll whilst garmin only the next turn only
If u like over 50 and u hate computers buy the garmin cuz its very simple but, if ur young and like features navigon 4

I saw this one on TV where they nicely explained all the features and benefits and I said "WOW" it can do all that. Well, I got one now and upgraded from my previous Pocket Loox because of all the new convenience features. I also wanted to have a bigger screen but still compact. The menus are pretty much the same and I got used to those. This one is just more advanced now. And yes it can do all that what they claim on TV. It's easy to use, got me to the places I wanted sofar without a glitch. You can get addicted to this device and I showed it to a couple of my friends already. The mount is a little big but nicely fits on my windshield and is in close reach. I'm mostly impressed by all the convenience features like telling me street names, telling me what lanes to pick on the highway. This reality view feature is extremely useful and pops up right when you need it in difficult situations and shows you real signs and arrows where to go. The traffic service is FREE. I love the design with its sleek finish. The Zagat guide that is included is helpful since you get some additional information on the restaurants and are not just going to the next Burger joint all the time. I saw Navigon has a bigger one with a larger screen and Bluetooth, of course that one looks nice as well but costs more, too. I like this one and highly recommend it.Customer Review: DO NOT BUY THIS!

I bought my Navigon 5100 and was fairly happy with it for a couple months. Then one day it could not find my current location. I've tried rebooting it and restarting it at different locations, but it never worked again. now it just sits there and mocks me.
The one thing that sold me on buying this product was the lane assistance, but it never worked well. It only comes on when there is light or no traffic. I don't really need lane assistance when all the lanes are open. It would tell me there was traffic even when I could see there was none.
When the Navigon did work, it took anywhere from 3-10 minutes to start giving directions. When giving directions it does not tell you if the highways off ramp is south, north, west or east. It's terrifying when your driving and can't figure out which off ramp to get off on.
I never understood why they put the speakers on the back of the product. It makes the verbal directions low and muddy. If they had simply put it on the front, it would have had great sound.
Whenever a traffic alert came up you would have to touch a small box on the screen to make it disappear. Living in Los Angeles, new ones were coming up once every two seconds. Annoying and disrupts driving.
Navigon is a bad product. DO NOT BUY!
