Customer Review: Damaged my MacBook Pro

NZXT ACC-NT-CRYO LX Aluminum Notebook Cooler 120MM Adjustable Fans (Black) On the strength of other positive reviews I bought this NZXT notebook cooler and my initial experience working with a 17" MacBook Pro was positive. However, leaving the computer (switched off) on the notebook cooler stand (with fans switched off) unattended proved disastrous. Contrary to my other cooler stand (a Zalman product), the NZXT stand failed to hold the MacBook Pro in place and the computer slipped off the stand sustaining serious damage to the case in the fall.
Comparison with the Zalman cooler stand which has no problem holding the computer in place conclusively demonstrates the design flaw in the NZXT product. NZXT have so far refused to acknowledge or respond to my complaint.
A seriously flawed product, and a totally unresponsive manufacturer. Prospective clients are strongly advised to spend their money elsewhere.

Do not buy this laptop cooler. I have used all 3 high end ones: Zelman ZM-NC2000, Antec 200, and this. This one is the worst so far.
And no, I am not saying that it does not cool the laptop. It does, quiet well, I might add, just as all the reviewers said. But its fault overshadows it:
1. Sharp edges. It is aluminum, so is Zelman. But this @##$% of a cooler has very sharp cornered edges. I was shocked when I felt it. It will easily cut your finger, as it did to me. $70 to buy a paper cut? I don't think so. How hard is it to round it up, huh?
2. Loud. When you plug in the AC adapter (that is funny, a laptop cooler that needs ac adapter), the fans are very loud. Loud enough that I will not bear it. Neither Antec nor Zelman are that loud, not even at full speed.
3. Power drain. I doubt any laptop can power it to its full potential. Sure, it is quieter w/o the ac, so is the fan speed/air moved.
I am returning mine to Amazon. I am keeping the other 2.

This is a fantastic cooler. I bought it to keep my 4 year old Inspiron 8600 cool, since it mostly works as my temporary HTPC. It used to get very hot and slow down whenever I watched online flash videos or played games with high graphics. This cooler does a great job of keeping it cool even during the most intense graphics operations. The computer no longer slows down and flash videos (from hulu.com) look great and playback is smooth.
The construction is solid and it's really nice and heavy. It's built in USB hub gave me some trouble initially during the setup and I had to rewire some of my peripherals to prevent windows from crashing just because that USB hub was connected to the laptop. It's all great now.
It's also surprisingly quiet (you have to literally sit within 3 feet of the cooler to be able to listen to the hum generated by those 3 120mm fans running at max speed). Perfect to extend the life of your old aging laptop which gets hot frequently and slows down.

As the product description says, this is aluminum. It does fit my 17" laptop with room to spare. I purchased a black one and the finish is well polished and not dull. The construction is very durable and should last a long time. Laptop heat has been significantly reduced. Fan noise is heard but does not irritate or disrupt movie watching experience. It makes a subtle and quiet breeze. For the price, i am happy with the purchase because the amount paid is well balanced by its design and construction; hence the 4 stars. In other words, anything over $40 and is plastic is not cost-effective for me.
Downside: Not designed for mobility. This is definitely a "put-in-place" cooler. It does fold in half, but the weight, bulk, and edges does not suit the traveling man/woman. Because it folds in half, not ideal for placing on your lap unless you have something underneath to prevent it from folding into you. Can be troublesome and heavy to place a laptop and this cooler on top of your lap.

I bought two of these coolers, one in black for me and the second in silver for my husband. We both have HP laptops with 17" widescreens. This was an upgrade from the Antec cooler, which worked fine for our old 15" laptops, but are way too small for our HPs. The NZXT coolers keep things COLD! We do not think that they are loud at all, in fact, they are slightly quieter than our Antecs. We keep the NZXTs on the lowest setting because that is more than adequate for us, but I can see more intense users using the higher fan settings, which come in handy. Build is solid, very heavy materials. Airflow is directed towards the bottom of the laptop, as opposed to being drawn away like in some other coolers. Adds nice height and a comfortable angle to the keyboard. Overall, a very efficient and ergonomic design. Not very comfortable on your lap, but I don't think that is its intended use anyway. Overall, the best cooler I have come across for 17" widesceens. The extra USB ports are nice too!
