Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of NZXT CRYO LX Aluminum Notebook Cooler 15-Inch to 19-Inch with 120MM Adjustable Fans - Black (CRYO LX BLACK)Customer Review: Industrial Strength, Easy Listening Summary: 4 Stars
Holy hell is this thing Darth Vader. Black, powerful, dangerous, and in possession of rather a mellifluous voice. Weight-wise it's just a bit lighter than my notebook (a Dell Latitude D820), and whilst perfect on a flat surface, it's not terribly comfortable on one's lap. With a bit of foam or a pillow underneath, though, everything's fairly jake. Where the danger enters the picture: the front portion folds so that one may use it flat or at an angle, but the hand-pinching risk is significant, and when encountered, painful. Just mind where your hands are when you're setting it down and you'll be all right. My previous $20 Belkin's fan was always getting caught maddeningly on my clothes because the vents covering it gaped a quarter inch each. As well, the power connexion cord broke loose, forcing us to dissemble it and glue it back in place--twice. This new one, the NZXT I'm reviewing now, feels indestructible and the fans are more than sufficiently shielded. Keeps this searing brick of mine cool as can be; quietly, too. I love the all-metal construction. It's well worth the cost. Suggested improvements: a latch of some sort for the articulated front bit and a smoother underside for comfortable lap use.
Customer Review: Currently The Best Cooler On The Market Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased a new HP 17-inch laptop & as anyone out there who has done the same, you know that it's a great laptop, but you could roast hotdogs from the heat they generate...did my research and purchased this cooler because it actually slightly larger than my laptop unlike any other cooler on the market which claims to fit a 17-inch laptop but falls short & looks cheap in the process. Also bought this cooler because it's the only one on the market with 3 adjustable 120mm fans and 4 useable & powered USB ports (if you use the AC adapter that comes with the cooler instead of the USB power cord). Another attribute this cooler has over the competition is that it pushes air up towards the bottom of the laptop instead of drawing it away which draws against most laptops built-in fan rendering either the cooler or the laptop fan useless which creates more heat. Nice to see that somebody did their homework and finally got it right after so many years. I recommend this model or the 15-inch model to anyone purchasing or looking to replace a laptop cooler. It's probably the most expensive cooler on the market, but compared to "ANY" of the competition..."IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY!"
Customer Review: Efficient Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this cooler for some two months now and I'm very satisfied.
It is sturdy and has 3 powerful ventilators, fitting perfectly for 17' notebooks. My notebook in particular, which was shutting off very often due to overheating, has never again done so, which makes the price totally worth it (don't wanna think about the costs to replace degraded parts due to continuous overheating). Features 5 usb ports also.
Still, beware: this cooler is THE heaviest I've ever seen/used, and it's design is made for using on a desk, not on the lap directly, unless u have some good blanket between your lap and the cooler - it gets to the point of hurting your legs, and it can get a bit clumsy with all that size/weight. The power cord is ridiculously short for a modern, every-day use appliance like this, and though it's probably my fault for not searching more info, I still didn't get why they send two usb cables with it when it doesn't work with usb-powering only.
Even considering those disadvantages, I absolutely recommend this cooler... probably saved my notebook, and is way better than any other cooler I've ever tried.
Customer Review: Great laptop cooler Summary: 5 Stars
I own a Gateway FX gaming laptop and it gets way too hot to even use on my lap. This is my first cooler I have bought, but I have seen other cheap models that my friends have bought and they don't seem to do the job. NZXT has made an excellent notebook cooler and it is really amazing how much cooler it keeps my gaming laptop. I would reccomend this to anyone who has issues with laptop heat. It is some what expensive, but I wanted the top rated product that I could get and it was worth the $70 plus shipping. If you buy a gaming laptop you might as well spend a little extra and get a cooler that will decrease your heat and keep your laptop at its peak. It is firmly built with aluminum construction which is nice despite the weight. Some would say it is not portable and the only way I could see that is if you do not have a bag large enough to put it in. It is not the most comfortable thing to place on your lap for an extended period of time, but to me it isn't anything to fuss about. Great product, keeps high performance laptops significantly cooler, 5 stars.
Customer Review: I'm dissappointed Summary: 3 Stars
After reading the reviews for this and other coolers, I decided this was the one for me. I just hooked it up and not long after I started using it, the fan started making a noise. Upon investigating, I discovered that a wire was causing part of the problem, so I put it in a different location and that helped a little, but the noise comes and goes and is very irritating. Also, it appears that some of the ports may not be hooked up at all. There is a place for a plug in the back underneath that has nothing plugged into it. Since I don't need the ports, I won't be checking it out further. This cooler is very heavy and appears to be built very well and I was impressed until I went to plug in the cords. The plug in bar seems loose and very poorly applied. If I hadn't gotten such a great deal on this thing, I would be sending it back. (ps...if you purchased one of these and both small white plugs on the underside of the connections has a plug in it, please let me know. I may exchange this, if it turns out it isn't even complete.)
