Customer Review: super cool surfing
Summary: 5 Stars

I have an older model Dell laptop which sucks on multiple levels, but the heat this thing generates is top on the "why it sucks" list. I had bought a cheaper laptop fan that only moderately cooled, and eventually the plug on the back broke off (my fault).

I procrastinated in ordering a new fan, however my laptop kept powering off because it was overheating. Off to the internet I went (on the desktop) and found this laptop cooler.

It works, brilliantly, and even makes my hand quite cool when I have it on the mouse close to the side of the cooler. It connects to the laptop via either a dc/usb cord or a usb/usb cord. There are 5 total usb ports on the back. The fan speed is adjustable with a dial on the side. The cooler is higher in the back providing a comfortable slant for the laptop.

To see just how well it worked, I ran a graphics intensive game that had previously been the main cause of the overheating and shut down. The other night when the laptop shut down, I felt the bottom of the laptop and it was uncomfortably hot.

Today, however, after running the game for well over 30 minutes, the bottom of the laptop was actually cooler than if it had only been used for internet surfing. The noise of the fans (three of them) is fine for me, as it works so well cooling, I don't mind a minor whirring sound. It's really not an issue. When you use a lot of fans, you expect some sound.

This was a bit pricier than I initially felt comfortable with, but I decided to take a chance, based on the reviews, and thus far I'm quite thrilled with it!

Customer Review: Good, not great
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this because it was the only laptop cooler I could find that would fully fit my 17" HP laptop, and my laptop would sometime over heat during gaming. I had read reviews on countless other models, trying to find one that would fit my needs the best. I'm running an HP DV7T.

This one appeared to be the perfect one. 3 fans, big enough to fit my laptop completely.

To start, it won't go on your lap. The metal edges are sharp. This is for desktop replacement notebooks only. Having read other reviews, I expected that this would cool my laptop by quite a bit. It in fact, doesn't. The 3 fans all work well, they just don't spin fast enough to move the volume of air that I think would be needed to cool it. Other reviews of the product said that it moved enough air that their CPU fans, etc. would barely ever turn on. It does lower the temperature of mine, but my laptop fan still kicks in all the time.

Pro's - Big. Big enough to fit a 17" laptop on it completely. The usb ports in back are handy too. The angle it makes the laptop sit is about 2 inches higher in back, so it raises it up to natural viewing area. It is attractive, and matches my laptop great. Quiet for having 3 big fans. Able to be plugged into A/C power, doesn't have to run off of laptop power.

Con's - It just doesn't seem to cool as much as I thought it would, especially being a $70 cooler. No on/off switch.

Customer Review: The best notebook cooler out there
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought a 17 inch HP power notebook that really had some serious heat generation issues. The notebook would become so warm, you actually could not keep it in your lap. I looked at several other coolers, and actually tried the Targus (don't waste your money--took mine back for a refund), and a Zalman (pretty good, but at least 2 notches below the NZXT. Kept it for use with a laptop that only has a moderate heat generation issue). This NZXT model is made from solid aluminum. It has 3 very quiet, large diameter fans that blow air up into the bottom of the laptop. Some coolers actually suck air away from the bottom of the laptop which seems like exactly the wrong way to go about trying to cool something that has its own fan sucking air up from the bottom of the laptop. Anyway, this unit is superbly constructed. It is fairly lightweight but does have sharp corners, so you need to exercise a little caution if you are going to use it in your lap. From what I have experienced and researched, this is the best device of its kind on the market. It's far from the cheapest, but remember what they say...you don't always get what you pay for, but you always pay for what you get. If you have a heat generating power notebook, you need this cooler. Don't even think about it. Just order it at the same time as the computer and the price won't seem so bad.

Customer Review: Effective cooler for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought one of these to cool a desktop replacement, the Dell Inspiron 9100. It effectively cooled that laptop around 10-15 degrees on a regular basis. At present it cools an HP Pavilion dv7 series 17.3" laptop with room to spare:-)

Likes:
Plenty of USB ports (the most I've found so far in a cooler)
3 120 MM fans (very effective cooling)
USB powered (no wall wart for external power)
Well suited for wide screens, will probably do nicely even for an 18" or even larger

Dislikes:
Fan noise: I had to modify the unit to prevent the fan blades from scraping against the grilles by adding shim washers to the fans for spacing. Not much clearance there from the factory....
Static electricity: In a dry environment, this cooler caused the above laptop to shut down. Apparently static electricity would pass from the user through the cooler to the comp via the USB port(s). I did not try the experiment with any other laptop for fear of zapping the motherboard. A humidifier helped that situation greatly.

I greatly recommend this cooler as it is well constructed out of aluminum, has large non slip rubber areas, folds up for storage, and cools quite well. The only reason for 4 stars is because the fan grilles tend to warp (or came from the factory that way)...

Customer Review: The. Best.

Simply the best laptop cooler available to the public. Period. Forget that it is 3-4x the price of cheaper alternatives. If you have a big machine that runs HOT, this is the badboy you want to buy.

17" widescreen? No problem.

Running a 512MB video card and playing games on the laptop with huge processor strain? No problem.

I have a Toshiba gaming monster. Took about 20 minutes on a rigid surface (not my lap) for the side vents to get hot. Serious, you can't touch it anymore, hot. Another 15 minutes and you could no longer rest your hands on the keyboard.

Before I bought this cooler, I had tried several of the cheap plastic coolers available for $15-25 a piece. One had a blue glow. Another offered variable speeds. Blah blah blah. They were crap. Built to handle laptops that just got warm, not serious processing machines, they had absolutely no effect on this beast. I game for hours now. The breeze out the sides is now comfortably warm. And it's quiet as a ghost.

Bottom line. Ignore the price. This thing works. If you have a big laptop and it gets hot, this will help FAR better than any of the cheaper alternatives.
