I bought this item April 21, 2009, for my wife's laptop, which travels with us to work and school as many laptops do. Since the battery only lasts about 45 minutes, we always bring the power adapter whenever we take the laptop. Unfortunately, this knock-off adapter didn't even last six months before it began to fail. The first symptom was that the adapter cables had to be twisted just right for the adapter to receive power. Eventually, it shorted out and burned our carpet. Fortunately, I was right there when that happened and quickly pulled the plug.

I bought the item because I initially liked the cost - pay $18 for a knock-off item instead of $65 from Dell. What a steal... but since that one didn't even last 6 months, I'd recommend NOT BUYING this item, steal or not. You get what you pay for. The original Dell adapter lasted several years, and I'm hoping my new Dell adapter will last just as long as the original.
