Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Motorola Signal Booster 484095-001-00 Bi-Directional RF AmplifierCustomer Review: Works like a champ! Summary: 5 Stars
I don't write a lot of reviews, but after reading some of the previous reviews of this product, I was compelled to write this summary of my experience with this signal booster.
For the past 3 years in our home, we've had intermittent problems with the digital cable reception. Most times it was fine, but the signal would often lose strength in the warmer summer months for unknown reasons. And the reception problems usually happened in the evening, and almost always on the higher channels. When I say reception problems, I am referring to the condition when the picture freezes for a couple of seconds, or when the picture becomes highly "pixelated", ... for lack of a better term.
About 2 years ago, I had replaced all existing cable with new cable, and at the time I thought I had fixed the problems. We have 3 television in our home. Unfortunately, after a few weeks, the reception problems slowly returned. I thought it was very odd that the problem "slowly" returned, as opposed to being either good or bad. In addition, and even weirder, the reception problems could often be fixed temporarily by turning a light on or off, or by turning one of the other tv's on. Convinced that it was a grounding issue or a bad, intermittent earth connection, I investigated this thoroughly and found no problems inside the house. However, at the main service entrance, I did find what I thought might be the problem. A large, uninsulated ground wire coming from the power company's main connection (near the electric meter) went to a long, metal stake in the ground. The ground wire was loose! I thought for sure that had to be the problem. After tightening the connection real well, the reception did indeed seem better, and we had no problems for a day or two. But just like after replacing the cable, the problems slowly returned.
By now, you are probably wondering why I didn't just call the cable company. I'll just say that I've had problems with my provider in the past, and they also make it very difficult to schedule any type of service. They always say, "We'll be there between 9am and 11am, or between 2pm and 4:30pm". Long story short, when we moved into this house 3 years ago, I had gotten into an argument with their customer service and with the technician when they never showed for the original appointment, and I had taken the day off work. If they had at least called to say they were running behind, ..... well anyway, .... it's over, ..... and so now I have no desire to deal with them again.
Getting back on track to this review, it finally occurred to me to do some research for the reception problems on the internet. And that research led me to many types of signal boosters, including this one. I checked ebay to see if I could find it even less expensive, but Amazon.com had the best price (with the free shipping). So I ordered this Motorola signal booster. To be completely honest, I was a bit hesitant to get my hopes up after thinking I had fixed the reception problems several times before. But lo and behold, this product works like a champ! The reception is PERFECT on all stations, at all times! I couldn't be happier or more satisfied.
To conclude, if you are considering this product for your reception problems, I would highly recommend purchasing this signal booster. It is very easy to install, and it only takes a few minutes. Someone's review had mentioned that this product needs to be installed at the entry point for the cable into the house. Not true. The directions instruct you to connect this directly to the input of your television with the 6-foot cables they provide. And yes, all 3 of our tv's now have perfect reception so I'm guessing it doesn't really matter where you connect it. (I may be wrong about that, though, so you may want to install this to the tv that is giving you the most problems.)
Sorry for the long-winded review, but I just had to let everyone know how well this product works, and that the price here at Amazon.com is pretty darn good too!
