Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Motorola SURFboard SBG900 DOCSIS 2.0 Wireless Cable Modem Gateway (Black)Customer Review: After 2 years and many laptops this is still a great product. Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this cable modem/wireless router for over two years. I went back to school and have hosted many study group sessions in my home where we were all connected to the internet through this router with no issues. I have used my work and two diffent personal laptops with this router and only had one issue.....I could not get connected to the internet after a bad thunder storm recently. I disconnected the power and the cable, waited a minute then reconnected them and all was good with the www again. As for the signal.....I have a great signal in all rooms of my home and out in the yard. I have an RV parked in my driveway and I can even get a great signal out there. (It is a nice quiet place to work and study.)
I highly recoment this product.
Customer Review: Ideal product. Reasonable price, easy setup, great function. Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this direct from Amazon based on the great price, combo features, and good reviews and was not disappointed. I use mine with an Apple Powerbook. Literally took it out of the box, plugged it into the wall, plugged it into the computer with an ethernet cable, called my cable company with my MAC address, modified some modem settings and activated WEP (as instructed in the pdf manual), disconnected the ethernet cable. and was surfing wirelessly in less than 20 mins. Range is great too in my 1200sqft two story townhome. Three to four bars throughout including my patio out back. Can't comment on further extent of range for those of you living in mansions. Overall, great product.... am very satisfied. Would definitely purchase again.
Customer Review: Worked great...for a while and then cost me more Summary: 2 Stars
Picked up the SBG900 in January and it worked great until a couple of weeks ago when it would not hook up with the internet. Tried the old reboot that they seem to need every once in a while and that fixed it. Cool. Except that it happens 3-4 times a day now. I then jumped through the hoops with the Motorola techs and it was determined after a week that I was due a replacement. (don't use the e-mail approach, call them) But I have to pay shipping to get it and again pay shipping to return the defective one. So much for the great warranty. Amazon stands behind anything I have bought here, no fees for replacement of defective products. Go figure. No more Motorola in my future, too many other companies out there who would want my money.
Customer Review: Easy setup and great value Summary: 5 Stars
I have a Windows XP Desktop, an HP Photosmart All-in-One C5180 Printer (with Ethernet Networking capability) and a new Laptop with Windows Vista.
I installed the modem software on my desktop and the CD walks you thrugh the setup step by step. I have the printer plugged into the Ethernet port, my computer plugged into the USB Port and my laptop came with a wireless card. Now I have a wireless internet and printing capabilities on my laptop with a network setup, all with one piece of equipment!
So far the modem has performed beautifully. The firewall setup is controlled online. Just make sure your firewall does not prevent current and future software installations.
Overall a great buy.
Customer Review: Good product Summary: 5 Stars
Setup was pretty easy. I got Comcast on the telephone with me and they entered the new MAC code into their system. Once that was done, the Modem was rebooted. I had to contact Motorola because the disk included with the product did not work for the installation. Motorola customer service talked me through the online setup. Once done, it's been rock-solid. I haven't had any issues, and the range allows me to surf anywhere in the house. The lowest signal strength I've seen was very good, but most of the time it's excellent. I do not play intense online games from my laptop, nor do I download movies, so I don't know if there would be an advantage to an "n" setup versus this "g", but for my purposes this is just fine.
