Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Monster iCarPlay Wireless FM Transmitter with Auto-Scan for iPod

Customer Review: decent product
Summary: 3 Stars

this transmitter works better than the last one i had, but the automatic scan feature doesn't quite work the way i thought it would. i also had a tough time getting it to work the 1st time i used it... i had to resort to the instruction manual. once i did that it worked just fine, but it wasn't something i would have figured out on my own. my only other complaint is that the plug lights up when its plugged in, i live in a city, and could attract attention for potential break ins. I have to unplug it when i get out of my car. not a big deal, but just one more thing i need to remember.

Customer Review: Did not work at all
Summary: 1 Stars

I tried this with both 2nd and 3rd gen nanos. The 2nd gen one would continuously attempt to tune on it's own. It would occasionally stop on an even tenth of a MHz which was completely useless as here in the US we use odd tenth MHz intervals. I tried to see if it was on the wrong region selection but the unit I had also had issues with scrolling through menus on it's own.

With the 3rd gen it would only display the currently tuned station. I got an open box unit, so I don't know if this unit was already broken. I just returned the unit for a refund.

Customer Review: Good design, poor performance
Summary: 1 Stars

The auto scan feature invariably stops on a band with interference, while I have no problem finding one manually. The sound quality is disappointing (and yes I have a decent stereo in the vehicle) it sounds almost muffled; I still much prefer playing a CD. This is the second monster transmitter that I have found disappointing. It may be that all FM transmitters suffer from poor sound quality, but a few years ago in a previous vehicle the CD player that transmitted in this manner had no such problems. Very disappointing for the money.

Customer Review: Not compatiable with iPod Nano 3rd Generation!
Summary: 3 Stars

I got this transmitter for Christmas and tried to use it with my iPod Nano 3rd Generation and found out that its not compatiable. It starts to work, but after about 1-2 minutes, it stops transmitting and you get a blast of static. You can reselect the frequency and it will start working again, only to stop after 1-2 minutes again. I called Monster and they said its not compatiable with the iPod Nano 3rd Generation. They are coming out with the model 250 that is supposed to be compatiable. So I am exchanging mine for that one.

Customer Review: Best Option for Volvo XC90
Summary: 5 Stars

Since the Volvo XC90 has a fiber optic antenae, the only option for connecting an iPod to the vehicle is something that will transmit to the FM Radio. After searching everywhere online and consulting with the Volvo Service department, the only option made by Volvo is the FM Transmitter cradle they make which is permanently mounted to the dash. I didn't like this option and didn't like the $287 price plus installation. I decided to give this a try and have been extremely pleased. Easy to use and easy to hide!
