Customer Review: Excellent speaker wire

I usually avoid purchasing anything Monster because I feel they are just a rip-off, but this spool of spekaer wire was a decent price compared to other similarly rated wire and since the wire I originally wanted (from Amazon for $15) was out of stock, I opted to get this in lieu of the other. It arrived promptly, in a well-packed box, sealed in its plastic wrap. This wire is thick and looks/feels like true 16 gauge wire. I was able to cut, strip the ends and make all of my connections easily. The sound quality from my speakers was noticably better, although I'm not sure this is because it's Monster brand since my previous speakers were connected via several patched/twisted-together wires (according to the wife, ghetto-connected). The wire is nearly flat, so it is not noticable in the room for the longer runs to my rear surrounds.
All-in-all, good wire for a good price. Local retailers have this spool for about $6-8 more plus tax. Props to Amazon for shipping promptly in a well-packaged box, as usual.

I started out with lamp cord cable from Radio Shack (they called it speaker cable). It was very rigid cable which made it a pain to work with. Short of stapling it to the floor, I don't think it would stay close to the wall. It was also a very bright gold color and stuck out like a sore thumb.
In comparison, the Monster cable seems to stick to the edge of the wall. It was like it was magnetized! I have the cable ran in front of a door (no other option). I couldn't do it with the Radio Shack cable but with this speaker cable you can hardly tell it's there. I also have it going up the wall to the speakers and it doesn't stick out as bad as the Radio Shack cable.
Finally, I don't see the sense of buying expensive equipment and using cheap cables to connect it together. I'm not saying to buy Monster all the way. There's now way I'd spend spend the kind of money they want for their cables but at the price this speaker cable is on sale, your aren't going to save much buy getting cheap lamp cable.

This spekaer wire is good for any home theater system that one might do themselves. The wire is easy to work with, ample amount of wire, and doesn't look that bad if left in plain sight. I used this wire on a small project I was doing for my childrens play room. I had more than enough wire to set their 5.1 system up, at least alot more than what came with the orginal speakers. I'm no audio guru so I could'nt tell you if I hear any difference, but it does make me feel more comfortable to know that I am using a much thicker wire to carry all the sound frequencies than that dental floss stuff that came with the speakers. The wire was easy to work with, did'nt bind or curl up. I AM SO GLAD I PURCHASED THIS SPEAKER CABLE FROM AMAZON.COM AT SUCH A GREAT PRICE! I UPGRADED ALL MY SPEAKER CONNECTIONS FOR MY NEW 7.1 CHANNEL DIGITAL RECEIVER AND I WAS ABLE TO DO IT WITHOUT SPENDING A FORTUNE, AND THAT IS BY USING ALL THE SPEAKERS I ALREADY OWN. MY NEW LCD TV & BLU-RAY PLAYER ARE CONNECTED TO MY RECEIVER AND OH BOY- WOW! WHAT A DELIGHT IT IS TO SIT IN MY LIVING ROOM & HEAR THE CRISP & CLEAR SORROUND SOUND REPRODUCTION FROM THE RECEIVER!

Customer Review: Not any better than 16 gauge lamp cord

All availible double-blind testing indicates that differences between copper wire of the same gauge over the same distance is completely inaudible. Monster Cable is no better than any other cable of the same gauge in terms of audibility, except in terms of Monster's marketing budget.
16 gauge stranded copper is more than enough for nearly any power draw over nearly any reasonable length of cable to any speaker.
Anyone who claims otherwise has never attempted to A/B speaker wire under double blind conditions.
Spend your budget on speakers and amplification and use the change in your couch to buy 16 gauge lamp cord at a hardware store. Anything more is a monumental waste of money.
