Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Monster MP OTG400 BK Outlets To Go 4 Outlet Travel Power Strip (Black)Customer Review: Compact Quality Summary: 4 Stars
Nothing fancy about Monsters Outlets to go x4. If you mess up a power supply that is just sad. Monster x4 works great, I love that it has a cord as many other compact/laptop power supplies do not. It is very compact and fits in many of my laptop bag's compartments with ease.
Size: For those wondering about safe overall size dimensions it is 6 1/4in tall and 2in at its deepest (where it plugs back into itself) and 2in wide. So 6 1/4 x 2 x 2in. If you have room for that you have room for this.
Light: Kind of pointless in my opinion and it needlessly jacks up the cost. No big deal though. Guess it helps you locate you laptop etc in the dark when you change surroundings a lot i.e. on the road all the time.
The only con is the black version costs more than the white version for no apparent reason. This seems very silly to me so I snatched a star off the rating for that.
Rugged, well built (not these cheap plasticky feeling bargain bin ones) and very simple. I sprung for the black one for a little extra cash as all my laptop stuff is Black/dark gray. It is great to know that no matter where you go you have surge protection no matter what. Also would be great if you are a LAN fan and take a smaller PC on the road all the time as well. If you want something fancier with USB charging go for the Belkin, if you want simple and sturdy, this here's your boy.
Customer Review: Very useful and practical!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the most useful products I own. I carry one of these power strips with me at just about all times when I leave the house, especially when I will be dealing with electronic devices. One example is: having to give a PowerPoint presentation with a laptop, projector, etc. Keep one of these in your bag! It is small, compact, folds up; but does the trick when needed. It is so easy to run out of outlets these days. You cannot always count on having them. So, if needed, at most, I just have to go to my bag, or car, to get one. It has come in handy more times than I could have imagined.
It is essential when traveling; it is an ideal friend to pack when having to charge cell phone, laptop and other electronics away from home, at the same time. It is more than convenient internationally when having to use a converter, or an electrical outlet adapter.
I later decided to buy another: Monster Outlets To Go Powerstrip. I keep it next to my computer. Many times I temporarily want to connect or test a device or two and I need extra outlets.
Even when I have not used it for a while, it's nice to know it's there if I need it.
Customer Review: Best Power Supply Summary: 5 Stars
I travel back and forth a lot over seas so it helps to have a power outlet that lets you hook up multiple power sources to it! It is light weight, it is portable, blah blah blah. the real benefit is that some power supplies don't provide the same power protection that others do when you change polarities (changing magnetic polls from North to South) however I recall reading somewhere that it does work for you and I have found this to be true. Also some power splitters do not let you hook up to a step down converter as the extra coil used as a surge protector becomes loaded with electricity and can cause a fire... this is NOT the case with this one as it has been polarized and tested (again this info comes from misc sites) so that doesn't happen to your electronics regardless of the power coming in or the geographic location in the world.
If I had a need for another one of these I would buy one in a heart beat, I have told all of my family/friends about this so they will be buying one as there needs call for it. Best of luck in buying, you should really buy this one if you go international.... Oh, there is also a reset button that isn't mentioned in the listing - it's a nice feature incase it's needed!
Customer Review: Does not work overseas Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this, assuming that if it was marketed for travelers, and thus it would work overseas. In the future, I'll have to always check tech specs before buying. It works great in the US (110v). It's compact, has five outlets that allow for transformers, and packs in luggage well. However, it does not work with other overseas voltages (220v). In the past, I've always traveled overseas with 1 or 2 universal travel adapters, and a US power strip so that I can plug in my computer, cell phone, PDA, camera, video camera, etc. all at the same time. This works well, as many power strips don't have any electronics in them. They simply transfer the power from wall to the outlets. Of course, power strips are more bulky than this item, and one must ensure all electronics plugged into it are 220v compatible. I didn't notice the "reset" button on this device until I tried to use it overseas and blew the breaker in my room. This is so that if you overload it, you can unplug something and then simply reset it, rather than having to buy a fuse. It also caused the fuse to blow in the Kensington universal adapter that I plugged it into. This is a good item for travel in the US, but don't plan on using it overseas.
Customer Review: Great for travel Summary: 5 Stars
When I go on vacation I bring lots of electronic gadgets, and invariably my hotel room has a single available outlet as happened on a recent trip. Not to worry. Using this product in connection with some other things, I soon had plenty of outlets.
I plugged a Belkin Travel Surge Protector into the single hotel room outlet and now had two outlets, which still was not enough. Into one of the outlets on the Belkin I plugged a 6 foot extension cord with three outlets at the end; and into one of those three outlets I plugged the Monster 4 outlet travel plug, which has a very short wire; hence the use of the extension cord. I now had more than enough free outlets plus the benefit of surge protection.
This is compact for travel, lightweight, and the plug neatly folds into one of the outlets. However because the wire for the plug is very short, I use an extension cord so that I can have this product on my hotel desktop instead of on the floor. However that is a matter of personal preference. You can definitely use this product without an extension cord. For travel this is a very handy way to multiply the available outlets.
