Customer Review: Not Worth It!
Summary: 1 Stars

Yeah, hate to burst some peoples bubbles, but these cables are not worth their weight in gold.

I recently bought a Samsung 52" LCD (LN52A650) which is THE best and I also got a PS3 for Christmas. On a side note, Amazon always seems to have the best prices. Got the TV for $1812 (no tax, free S/H, and 24 months no interest)... what a deal!!! Anyway, back to my story... I was so excited about my new TV and wanted the absolute best picture I could get. After extensive research, I bit the bullet and bought this cable. I hooked up PS3 to the TV via the Monster, popped Spiderman 3 (Blu-ray) in and watched in amazement. Picture perfect! 120hz really is the way to watch movies! It's better than the movie theaters, believe me!

After paying $90 for this cable I was hesitant to do the test (because I hate to squander money). A week later I decided to buy another HDMI cable from Amazon (Mediabridge 120hz ...) for $12. When I received the cable I popped 'ol Spidey back in the PS3 and did the test. I switched the cables back and forth and tried three different scenes just to make sure.

Sorry to say, I couldn't tell the difference. I'm no videophile, but my eyes don't lie. If there was a difference, it was strictly technical not visual. I think the great picture comes from the TV and doesn't matter what cable you use. Trust me, take the extra $75-$125 dollars (you can save) and go buy a bunch of movies... don't waste your money. I'm gonna try to sell mine and get some more PS3 games.

Customer Review: Expensive
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a great product, but as with everything Monster, way too expensive. I got Samsung's 2500 Series Blue Ray player and got suckered into buying this at the surviving Big Box store, as they had no other comparable HDMI cables in stock, and I didn't want to wait another second before watching movies on my new equipment. I have the 46 inch Samsung 630 tv, so it's got the 120 refresh rate, which I was told that if I had the fancy Blue Ray and the nice tv, there was no reason why I shouldn't have this expensive cable to be up to speed with my equipment. Is it actually better than the cables that Directv gave me for free when they installed my dish? I don't know. I don't have much to compare it to because this is the only cable I have ever used for my blue ray player. It does work great though, and the picture looks great, but that could just be that I shelled out the extra money for a really nice television. In the end, it is a great product, and well constructed, clearly not cheap, but I would have to wonder if it is at all worth the money. I had spent so much on my equipment already that I thought, "Eh, what's another 130 bucks." If you don't have the high end tv with the 120 hertz refresh rate, there is probably no reason to spend this much money on the cables. I do regret spending a lot of time researching the television itself, but then just trusting Big Box's expertise on cables. Yeah, I did that.

People who have done something really dumb, like paying through the nose for these cables, are very keen to detect a difference that can justify their behavior. It's the way hypnosis works, the victim has to come up with an explanation for what they are doing.

I tried one of these cables, a Rosewill and a Bytecc plus some $2 nameless thing I got from Amazon, with a Bluray and a high quality PC as a source there was no significant difference in the cables. At the same time I was switching between three different LCD TVs, all around 50 inch, and two plasma screens. We used an Onkyo SR805 and a Denon AVR-4306 receiver to connect them.

What we found was that any change of source, receiver or TV was immediately visible. I have to be honest, I couldn't see any change between any of the cables, but one of the guys claimed he could. By the time we had unplugged one and plugged in another I couldn't see anything wrong. Swapping between sources and TVs showed that the PC / $100 Bluray drive was slightly less good than the Sony Bluray player. The big difference was the TVs, they were vastly different. I eventually went with a Samsung LCD and Onkyo receiver, again the difference between the Onkyo and the Denon didn't begin to justify the vast cost.

Customer Review: Poor value for the money
Summary: 1 Stars

A friend of mine was sold this cable along with a hi-def LCD screen at a major electronics retailer. The salesman pitched it as a worthwhile upgrade and he bit.

Some background: I have an amateur radio license and build, repair and restore electronics as a hobby. I have a bench of test equipment for troubleshooting and testing new builds.

So my friend brought it over to see if this cable measured any differently from another cable he has that cost under $10. We fed a few signals through each and viewed them on an oscilloscope.

There was no difference between the cables.

Informal tests swapping the cables in and out did not reveal a difference, either. Fortunately, my friend was able to return the cable for a full credit. He is now happily using a cable that cost less than one tenth the price and enjoying his new TV.

Don't buy cable snake oil. If you're tempted by this cable, buy a cheap one first. Cheap cables are only a few dollars, so you're not risking anything.

If a cheap cable works fine, that's all you need to buy. Also, if you're not familiar with the markups and bonuses Monster gives for selling their cables, run a few searches on the Internet. The price margins and sales commissions are eye opening, to say the least.

Customer Review: Great Cable and too many Monster haters
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased a 6ft Hdmi cable from Cables to GO and when I hooked it up to my 70in Sony Tv and T saw some noise in the picture.I replaced it with a Monster cable and the picture was superb. One year later still no problems with the picture. I am very satisfied with this cable and I highly recommend it. I noticed lots of Monster haters rambling about the price. I am pretty certain these are folks who also hate brand name merchandise all togther. Why is it then all these other cable manufacturers compare their products to Monster's? The reason is Monster sets the standard for the others to follow. Monster doesn't try to be them. When you look at Monoprice or Belkin or anyother web site they too have expensive HDMI cables, it's just that they don't spend the money to advertise them. They hope you will know that better materials will cost more than a basic cable.I haven't read in years anyone complaining that Monster cables are of poor quality.
Guess many of you will tell me why buy a BMW when you can get a Chevy for 1/2 the price? And I can't imagine someone spending $2G on a TV to get the clearest picture then putting a $5.00 cable to bring that picture. Why didn't you just by a Soyo TV at a discount store? U'd have some serious savings.
