Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Light (Silver)Customer Review: BRAVO!! Summary: 5 Stars
Fantastic light....bright!! (don't know what reviewer was complaining about- even on low setting it is sufficient)
I have purchased three of these and going back to get more. The perfect light for reading in bed without keeping partner up with lamp....
the perfect light for reading, period,...especially for "Boomers" that wear reading glasses. Great little gifts (stocking stuffers) without spending an arm and a leg.
This light is VERY easy to use and manipulate. I also use it to read outside at night. Perfect! The batteries last a long long time. I gave my dad one for his birthday September 2008. He uses it almost every day and battery still working nearly one year later.
Update October 2009:
Even though the battery and bulb were still working after one year, (and it says only 40 hours for the battery here on Amazon) I ordered replacements for my Dad thinking they had to be getting close to running out. Everyone living in his house kept trying to confiscate Dad's Mighty Bright. I bought them each one so they would leave his alone!
The replacements came quickly. I love these things- Just ordered two more . (for a total of 6 now) They are the perfect gift that "keeps on giving"....at the right price! And easy to replace bulbs/batteries. Highly recommended!
Customer Review: Buy This one, for sure! DON'T CHOOSE SILVER Summary: 5 Stars
Highly recommend! Ignore the (1) replies; switch works fine. If a concern, take the batteries out when you travel, or don't toss in a backpack with a lot of other objects, or tape it; use common sense. The light beam covers each page well; paperback, hardcover, or Kindle2, attach it to the top or bottom spine or front or back cover, or back of leather Kindle cover; firm grip. Best light I own, EXCEPT for the one light/one battery Flex Travel, which is my fave. I feel a person would have to be extreeemly picky not to be able to use and enjoy either of these lights, and they (all colors of XtraFlex2, not just black) work well with a Kindle in a cover. Clip it to the back cover, not the kindle itself, plenty of room. Long life and clear light at the right shade, good coverage. Takes very basic knowledge to figure these out. Very forgiving, unless you drop and step on it. Don't look directly at the light, but its OK to turn into the eyes of a person reading over your shoulder with bad breath. Get a Kindle2, at least.
Update Nov 19th: I still think this light is great. But, I recommend against SILVER as it reflects the light off of it and can be annoying. There can be some glare off the screen from any light, just reposition the light or Kindle, but the reflection off the silver cannot be avoided.
Customer Review: Delivers in spades, a mighty good led light! Summary: 5 Stars
Having purchased an LED reading light a few years ago that was passable but failed recently I was on the lookout for a replacement. I must concur with the reviewers here who gave it five stars.
The six important characteristics of a good reading light are in my opinion:
1. Strength of light - Excellent, even at lower power setting quite adequate.
2. Uniformity of light - At last, a product that delivers. No more hot spots or dark shadows to contend with.
3. Flexible head - Well done, neck design is very poseable.
4. Stable base - Nothing more annoying than a reading light that topples with the slightest nudge. This one is quite stable without being overly heavy.
5. Strong attachment mechanism - Good clip design that doesn't fall off easily, my old light was challenged and often fell off.
6. Battery life. 40 hours or thereabouts, enough for me to read six or seven good books.
Lest I be accused of fawning over a product I point out that the switch for on/off and output level might be better placed on the base. Trivial perhaps and doing so may make it prone to accidental movement or add to the cost.
Five stars. I expect to grow very fond of it over the years....
Customer Review: Largely great, but one big flaw Summary: 4 Stars
I just returned from vacation where I really put this light through its paces. Overall, I like this reading light but there is one major flaw which keeps me from loving it.
Pros:
- light weight
- two levels of brightness (very helpful)
- light is easy to position to just the right spot
- clips on and stays where you put it (even with a Kindle)
- LED means a long battery life and don't have to carry extras
Con:
- where the on/off switch is located (on the light head itself) and because it is turned on by pushing it in, it is VERY EASY to turn it on accidentally. As I was packing it into my luggage, I accidentaly turned it on and again when removing it from my luggage. I had visions of it being bumped during the flight and finding out the light had been on for many hours without my knowledge. I suppose I could take the batteries out every time I pack it, but don't really like that additional step. Even when just moving it from one spot to another in my own house, I had to learn how to hold it to not cause it to come on (one time it did and was directly in my eyes -- I saw spots for a while!).
Customer Review: Not a brite idea Summary: 1 Stars
After purchasing 2 of the older incandescent models I had to stop using them as music stand lights. Despite the convenience of wire free operation and their ability to put the beam right on the page while keeping it out of the audiences line of sight, they blew bulbs CONTINUALLY. I was "left in the dark" on several crucial occassions. That was not what I had in mind when I purchased them.
So I decided to try the single LED model. I bought two of them and within a month they became intermittent. The vibrations on stage would actually cause them to go to 1/2 light or fail completely. A source of irritation both to me & MY EMPLOYER!!
As to customer service, I had a better experience than some of the other reviewers. When I contacted them to report the problem and see if perhaps I was doing something wrong, they got back to me in a reasonable time frame and sent me a replacement. Which promptly failed as well.
Anyway, my advice is to avoid these products as they seem to suffer some real durability issues in thier design. Just shoddy
