Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Light (Silver)Customer Review: This is my 5th book light and the best one so far Summary: 5 Stars
I've been putting it to light use (hee hee) for over a month now and there's no defects so far.
I have 5 book lights and it took that many to figure out what a good (printed) book light should do.
This Mighty Bright Extraflex 2 meets the criteria:
1) Has to have a decent brightness and spread. My other lights had to constantly be adjusted and focused on each page, and again for top and bottom of each page. That's 4 adjustments for every page turn - way too much fiddling with the light and too distracting from the act of reading. If anything, it may be a bit too bright for reading in bed next to a sleeping significant other - but no complaints so far. The two settings allow you to dim the light a bit, but I'd like a dimmer option. Some of the new Mighty Bright models actually have a dimmer so you fine-tune to the brightness you want, but I haven't tried those yet - they're next.
2) Has to use regular everyday batteries (AAAs preferred). The other lamps required expensive button cells or lithium batteries and I've spent several times the cost of those lamps on batteries alone. And button cells are harder to find too. Too much hassling with the batteries. Rechargeable AAAs are available so this solves the battery problem. I'd prefer it only use 2 AAAs instead of 3. Then the base would be smaller and not so heavy, but this has only been a minor problem.
3) Has to be reasonably small and sturdy, and clamp well. The bulk is a little more than I'd like (thickness), but not too bad either. It packs away OK, but it is a bit long and spindly so it might need a small box to transport it in. I've had to cover the on/off button with an small plastic bottle over the lamp to keep it from turning itself on in the backpack.
Overall, it's the best I've found (for printed books) and the price is lower (at Frys or Mighty Bright) than some others.
Customer Review: When the lights go out, there's Mighty Bright! Summary: 5 Stars
Know what is as essential in my luggage as prescriptions or deodorant? My book light! A book light is essential to a reader, or at least to me.
Whenever I go overnight or longer, my book light is packed. I don't sleep at night as most people, especially in "strange" places. So I rummage, actually, no, I don't rummage, I always know where exactly where I packed my book and my light, and slip off to the bathroom, get comfy on the bathmat and read until I get sleepy. I don't need to turn on any lights because my book light points the way. In another place I can go to the living room and snuggle in a chair, clip on the light, and read away. Last time I stayed at my mother's I tip-toed into her walk-in closet, found comforters, and read away. She's used to me.
But the best reason for a book light is when the lights go out as they are wont to do during thunderstorms or ice storms. My book light and a flash light are right in the drawer next to my bed. There are two other flashlights stashed around the house. Find one, light candles, go to bed, and read. I used to fret and fume over the electricity snapping out. No more.
In case the LED lights go out, I bought two replacement bulbs. I also own three other styles of book lights, but Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light,Silver is the best of all. It has double LED lights, but only one is necessary. I need bright light to really see to read and this product meets my demand. Plus, the graceful curve of the neck and the sophistication of the silver make this an attractive product. It also comes in lime, purple, and bold blue. Take the clip at the bottom, snap it onto the back cover of the book and several pages for stability, click on the light, once or twice for your brightness, and enter that other world.
Customer Review: Amazingly Bright and Long Battery Life Summary: 5 Stars
I've had the Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light for well over a year now, and I absolutely love it! I'm able to attach it to a book or to my Kindle (version 1).
The Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light is also available in the following colors: Blue, Black, Green, and Pink.
Pros
----
- VERY BRIGHT White Light
- Two Brightness Settings
(1) On the brighter setting, it uses both of its LED lights; (2) on the dimmer setting, it uses only one.
- Phenomenal Battery Life
The book light requires 3 AAA batteries to operate. My book light provides 15-20 hours of light before the light STARTS to be noticeably dimmer. The book light can provide about 35 - 40 hours of usable light before I have to replace the batteries (I use 1000 mAH AAA rechargeable batteries).
- Flexible Gooseneck
The gooseneck is extremely flexible; it can be twisted or bent in any direction, so I am able to adjust the height and direction of the light with total ease. It comes in very handy for directing the light on the verso or recto as needed as you're reading.
- Compact and Lightweight
With a book in hand, I hardly feel the weight of the book light when it is clipped onto the book.
- Rugged and Durable
The book light is well-made and has a rugged casing.
Cons
---
None. I honestly can't think of any!
The Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light is both attractive and functional. Plus, it is very affordable and reasonably priced. You really can't go wrong with this one!
Customer Review: Shape of the clip leads to scratches! Summary: 3 Stars
Let me start out with the good: it is very bright, and did what everyone says it does. It is extraordinarily bright, and when reading at night, I used only 1 of the 2 available LEDs. The clip has a good hold to it; the battery lasts forever, etc.
The reason why it only gets 3 stars: I have the Sony E-reader. It comes in it's own leatherette case, which fits the reader very well. This light (when clipped on the back of the case) rubs against the back of the reader. I figured it wouldn't be an issue, as the reader has an aluminum housing, but it did scratch the back of the reader after very slight use! Because of the shape of the clip, there are 2 points where it scratched the reader: the top corner (where you would assume it would) and also about 1.5 inches down, where the clip curves back up.
I ended up having to stick foam double-sided tape (with only 1 of the paper sides removed) on the front of the clip so it would not scratch the reader.
I would imagine that this would affect anyone with any reader.
The light is very bright, and as such, is subject to pretty severe glare. With the Sony reader, there is a (very) reflective chrome strip at the top of the unit which makes adjusting the light that much harder!
Of course, that would be true of most lights that are similar to this design. I do not currently have a solution to this issue. I have considered getting the light wedge case Cover with Custom Light Shield +2 Aaa Batteries but it seems that also has issues of it's own.
All in all, it does what it's supposed to, but it's difficult to adjust for easy reading.
Customer Review: Great Gift Idea Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a purple light with the adaptor. My main desire was to use it to read during my morning carpool commute to work. I loved this product so much that I bought three as gifts and am ready to buy one more.
There are three versions of this light offered for sale. One is just the light. One includes an adaptor. One includes batteries. The light does require 3 AAA batteries if the adaptor is not being used. I've found it available in blue, green, silver, black, purple and pink. There is also a Kindle version.
I have been using this light for over a month and am still using the same batteries. I have yet to use the adaptor. The batteries are more convenient for me. I had purchased rechargable batteries and a charge but haven't broken into them yet.
There are two lights on this product and three light settings. The left, right or both lights can be used. The neck is flexible so that it is easy to move to a position that actually sheds light on the entire page (if not two pages). It is bright. My husband still complains when I read in bed with it...however, it doesn't bother my carpool driver.
The clip is large and will easily attach to hardcovers. I usually clip it to the top of the pages that I've already read. When reading mass market paperbacks, I try to clip it to as large of a hunk of pages as possible because I don't like the light to move around.
A very useful product. Make sure to buy only what you need. As I did pay extra for an adaptor and just don't use it at all.
