Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light (Black, Kindle Version)Customer Review: This device BROKE my Kindle!! Buyers Beware! Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased my Kindle 34 days ago. I bought this light a few days after I received my Kindle when I needed an extra light source for nighttime reading. The light clip is a little bulky but I found a small section in the upper right hand corner to clip it to. I was very careful to keep the clip off of the screen and only on the edge of the device.
Yesterday, I noticed a diagonal chunk of ink that cuts off a triangle of screen on the upper right hand corner of my screen. It's almost like there's a piece of a screen saver that doesn't go away. It obscures the wireless and battery indicator notices on the screen- they are not visible at all and ink boarders or the title line don't appear in the damaged section.
After sending pictures of my screen and the odd ink chunk to a Kindle rep at Amazon, she confirmed that this is a screen break. She explained that the only way to get screen breaks like the one I have is by dropping the device (which I have never done) or by squeezing the corner too tight.
The only thing I have had on the corner of my Kindle is this light. The screen break is right where I clip the book light. I will never use this light again; even to clip it on to the case I have for my Kindle.
I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone.
If you have one already, I recommend that you don't attach the light to your Kindle device at all.
Customer Review: Great little light Summary: 5 Stars
This has turned out to be a great little light. It's pretty bright for an LED light with fresh batteries. I was actually surprised at how long the batteries last considering how bright it is.
While this does work very well on my Kindle, I found myself using it for other things more and more. I have used it clipped to the back of our entertainment center to hook up the components. We have used it in our house as a night light. It goes for several nights on one set of batteries. I have used it for all sorts of things where one would use a clip or a stand light with a flexible neck.
Other people have said that the light has a problem with glare on the Kindle screen. This is true, but it is actually a function of the Kindle surface, and not the light. The other lights I tried do the same thing. It is easy enough to just move the light up higher to solve that problem.
We like this light so much that my wife and I both have one on the head of the bed. It's the perfect light when you need to go around late at night without waking the whole house up.
It actually works well on those primitive paper based books, but better for hardbound than paperback. Of course some of the paperbook crowd will never touch this light, preferring to use tallow candles or sputtering oil lamps.
Tradition, you know.
Customer Review: 3rd Times the Charm Summary: 4 Stars
This is my 3rd booklight. There are a few reasons that I consider this the best one to date.
1. The battery situation - my other booklights required 'off-size' batteries that I just never managed to replace. Also, usually the batteries were accessed using one of those tiny screwdrivers. This light has a regular, old slideout battery case and uses 2 AA batteries (I am using rechargeable so am also being 'green')
2. The light settings. Since it has two brightness settings, I can get the amount of light that I need
3. The best flex-neck I've ever used. Maybe because my previous booklights were older, they used older technology, but this flex neck is so smooth its more like putty than metal. My only-and very minor- complaint is that if you jar the book, the light will flop to one side or the other, but since I don't read books on bumpercars, I have been okay with that.
4. I had to come back and edit this review. If you are protecting your Kindle investment with a screen protector and plan on using this light, I highly recommend that you get the anti-glare screen protector. Although I have found the perfect angles to set the light, I am sure the anti-glare screen makes using this light just that much easier
I really recommend this light and my husband borrowed mine so often that I got him his own so this review is two recommendations in one!
Customer Review: Best book light for inveterate night owl readers Summary: 5 Stars
The XtraFlex2 LED book light is light years (no pun intended) better than the old itty-bitty-type lights that used incandescent bulbs.
The XtraFlex2 gets great battery life, unlike the the itty-bittys, which I found went through batteries like crazy. Of course, the LED "bulbs" don't burn out like the itty-bitty blubs (and the XtraFlex2 doesn't heat up from its bulbs, either). The XtraFlex2's integrated battery pack is also great; no getting tangled up in a cord while you're in bed.
I stumbled on the XtraFlex2 at my local Borders. They had a bunch of them in a display when the final Harry Potter book was published (presumably figuring that a lot of kids, little and big, were going to be doing a lot of reading in bed...). The leftovers were sold at half price, a real bargain. I bought one, tried it out, loved it, and went back to buy several more for use as gifts (and spares).
Available in colors other than black; Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light, Silver, Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Book/Craft/Clip-On Light, Green, Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Book/Craft/Clip-On Light, Pink, Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Dual Book/Craft/Clip-On Light, Purple, and Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light, Blue.
Customer Review: mighty bright Summary: 4 Stars
This product seems to be the best option for a kindle reading light currently on the market. The advantages are clear (as rated in the optional attributes). Qualities that I rated a "3" are areas in which this product can maybe be improved upon. For example, glare is an issue but one you can work around if you position the light slightly off center.
Other facts: I found neither an advantage nor a disadvantage.
-It is more of an fluorescent light than a 'white', soft light.
-The lowest light setting is rather bright. I bought this accessory in hopes of reading in bed next to my husband while he slept; however, it still is a bit bright and casts a lot of light.
-the clip and battery pack is on the larger size (as it houses two triple A batteries). I have a leather case w/ my kindle and when opening and closing the leather case, I have to clip/unclip the reading light. If there was a lighting option that allowed me open and close my leather case with out having to remove the light, I may purchase that in the future.
*I have no idea what they mean in the optional attributes, "light comes on during travel". If they mean to ask if I use the light during travel, then yes - I do and it's wonderful. However, if they mean, 'light comes on unintentionally during travel' then no - the light does not come on unless I turn it on.
