Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light (Black, Kindle Version)Customer Review: Excellent Clip On Light For many Purposes Summary: 5 Stars
Although I don't normally have problems reading my Kindle display under normal illumination, I purchased this light for times when I am reading in dimmer light (when my poor wife is trying to sleep). I now plan on using it anytime I'm doing work that needs concentrated light and I have a place to clip it!!
The light works great with the Kindle. You need to adjust it so that the light shines somewhat obliquely to the surface, otherwise you will get a "hotspot" reflection off the surface. However, the light from the device is diffuse, so it's not difficult to get the light adjusted properly.
This device has two LED lights. You can choose to activate one or both. For most Kindle purposes, I think I'll only use one LED. The device is well built and I do not anticipate problems from the sturdy switching mechanism or the rather delicate looking goose neck. There is a slight blue tinge to the light it produces, but the hue is not an impediment or an annoyance. I looked at several lights, but I chose this one for two reasons. First, it had aforementioned two light settings. Second, it uses AAA batteries and not watch batteries which tend to be more expensive. It IS a trade off. The watch battery powered lights will have a smaller footprint than this light with slightly less weight. However, the size and weight of the clip do not bother me on this model. The neck is very flexible, so will be easy to store for travel. Overall, I can highly recommend this light. It's slightly more expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Customer Review: Excellent 5 Stars
I bought three of these in blue (a spare for me and one for my brother) after thoroughly reading all of the comments on competitive brands. I found the comments praising this model to be right on the mark. When I read it lit up both pages at the same time using dual lights where all other brands required constant repositioning for each page, that was all I needed to know this was the best reading light for me.
I can't say enough nice things about this product. It has dual lights on a flex shaft which you can position to fully illuminate both pages of a large hardback book. You wont need to keep moving the light around to light your pages with this one and the pages ar well lit for easy reading in the dark. But the light is centralized on the book and not the surrounding area so others can sleep while you read.
You can also switch from dual lights to a single light. The flexible shaft on the light is sturdy and stable enough to firmly hold its position over the book even while you move around and turn pages. You can either clip it on the cover or use the clip to hold open the pages. It operates on AAA batteries. The higher quality battery, the longer it lasts. I use the Duracell ultra digital batteries with the blue band.
I cannot think of any negatives about this product. I'm not associated with any seller. I am just a customer who was happy to find a great product. Definitely a good buy.
Customer Review: Two choices of lighting. Summary: 5 Stars
You have at least two choices a headlamp or a clipon booklight.
The Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light works perfectly...
1) ...as long as you don't try to attach directly to a barebones Kindle outside of the Kindle's bookcover.
2) It takes 3 AAA batteries (does your recharger do 3 at at time, instead of just 2 or 4 at a time)? Can you buy a pack of 3 alkalines?
3) Yes, you could use it for other purposes such as puttering around the house at night, power shortages, changing a flat tire, a bicycling warning light. But for instance if you clipped it to the bill of a baseball cap, the long stem makes it somewhat unwieldy.
A choice which eliminates these 3 problems would be certain models of headlamps. Such as the Black Diamond Gizmo ($20). Of very high build quality that should last years (mine has so far, although a slightly different BD model). Very bright with 3 super LEDs (2 brightness levels), 2 AAA's (instead of 3), a switch specially designed to never turn on inadvertently, tilts vertically (and stays firmly in position). Wherever you look, its pointed right there.
On the other hand,
1) as you know the elastic band on a headlamp will rearrange your hairstyle to resemble Shemp (the alternate stooge).
2) a headlamp doesn't stay attached to your reader as is liable to be somewhere else when you sit down to read.
Customer Review: Exactly what I was hoping for Summary: 5 Stars
I love my kindle 2. Love it, love it, love it. The only snag I ran into with my love affair is that I like to bring it to bed (oh baby) and read. My room's over head lights were too bright - A table lamp would have worked, if I had a bed side table, but I don't.
There also was the unique problem of trying to figure out how to get the book light to stay attached to the kindle and it's cover w/o scratching up the screen or other problems.
Enter the mighty bright xtraflex2. (More X's make it more X-TREME!!!)
This little bugger fit every single bill I could throw at it. Light weight, bendable neck for glare adjustment, gentle - yet firm grasp of the kindle and it's cover and best of all *TWO* levels of light brightness. Simply push the button once for bright and push it again to go down a knotch if you've got a sleeping partner and then once again to turn it off.
All in all, I encourage every kindle owner to pick this puppy up. You've already dropped the $300 on the kindle - go ahead and plunk down another $20 for the light. If you consider yourself a member of the book-worm coterie - you'll get as much use out of it as I have.
"And the good book sayeth, 'Blessed are the quiet nerdy little readers of the world, for they shall be smart and glasses will be considered sexy."
"What? No it didn't."
"Well...it should have."
Customer Review: Not Made Specifically For Kindle But Works Well With Kindle Summary: 4 Stars
Bought the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 for my Kindle. While it is obvious there is nothing special about how this light is made with respect to it use with a Kindle the two products work well together in that the light fits neatly on the back cover of the standard Kindle case. The case provides a stable platform for the light and the area that this light covers encompasses the entire Kindle screen without any significant dark spots on the screen. The product is obviously well made but because it is sturdy it is a bit cumbersome and heavy if you want to use it on a flimsy paperback book. Also if the book is large you will find that the light does not cover both pages of an open book with equal light intensity(hence, not a 5 star rating). However this may be a little nick-picky in that you can still read the pages easily enough without constantly changing the position of the light. I read on another review that the "black" colored light is preferable because other colors cause reflections back into the readers eyes that can be annoying. I bought the black light for this reason and this is not an issue with the black light but I can see how it can be a problem with other colors. Lastly, these lights are available at Barnes and Noble where I bought mine and if you are a member of B&N with the 10% discount you can get the light for slightly cheaper and not have to wait for shipping time. Hope this is helpful
