Customer Review: A little dim and not for the kindle
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this item for my wife's Kindle DX and I have to say that I'm a little disappointed. First, I am disappointed by the description of it being the "Kindle Version". There is nothing about this that is specifically for the Kindle (the box doesn't even contain the word "Kindle"). As as a reading light for the Kindle it doesn't work very well. The Clip that hangs onto the Kindle is the same kind of smooth plastic as the Kindle itself, so it starts sliding off and rotating while your trying to read, forcing you to constantly adjust the thing. I don't know if some ruber pads on the inside of the clip might help, but something needs to be done with the design to make it stay in place.

And the clip is too large for the Kindle. If you try to clip it in the center the clip is long enough that it reachs down and over the top of the screen. If you try to clip it to the side of the Kindle the clip is wide enough that it reached over the side of the screen. Putting it in the center makes it more stable, but I'm worried about it damaging the screen.

As a reading light, it also isn't very bright. I have a reading light I bought a few years ago that is at least twice as bright. Since the Kindle has that grey background you need more light than an actual book does in order to read, so it fails on this front as well.

If you were buying this for use with regular books, it might be servicable, but certainly not for the Kindle. They make it seem like this reading light is something special for the Kindle, but it's not. I would just take your Kindle to the bookstore and fine a reading light that you think will work.

Customer Review: Great Reading Light for the Kindle
Summary: 5 Stars

I am VERY glad that I bought this. In my book I have already gotten my money's worth.

The flexible arm is very positionable and also sturdy so that it won't droop or move from where you place it.

The LED lights are nice and bright. They are perfect for reading. No more need for eye strain. To tell you the truth I always used the brightest setting. I haven't found a need to dim it. The direct light is nice and localized so I don't feel like I am blinding anyone next to me. However, I mainly use this light at home so I could see wanting the lower light setting in a public place like on a plane. I just haven't needed it yet.

The main thing I like is being able to read no matter where I sit. Now I can choose my most comfortable seat without having to adjust so that my Kindle is pointed toward the lamp. Mainly I read at home but I have taken this light and my Kindle camping and I was able to sit in a comfortable camping chair in the pitch black of the morning and read as soon as I got up with no worries about light. I'm an early riser. :)

The only thing I have to guard against is keeping the glare of the lights off my view of the Kindle screen. This isn't really even a problem and it is something I think you would have to deal with using any reading light. Depending on how I sit I need to position the light generally to the right or left of the screen depending on my view. This is where the positionable and sturdy light arm comes in handy again. I am always able to position it so that there is no glare and I have plenty of light across the page.

I highly recommend this light if you are looking.

Customer Review: Good light
Summary: 4 Stars

I have a couple LED lights, others are used with a USB port of a computer, and I was very suprised how white the light is. More importantly I was impressed with how it evenly projects the light. I have seen with other LED type lights how each LED projects a round little light which makes for an uneven light, with this light its not an issue. Kudos Mighty Bright XtraFlex2!

The clip mechanism works well and the light is compact enough to take on trips.

Customer Review: Great Little Lamp
Summary: 5 Stars

This little reading light is well worth the price. It is very light weight, and except for the light it gives off, I don't even know it's there. The goose neck is very flexible, allowing me to adjust the light source to nearly any angle I may need. And since it has two settings, I can adjust how much light it gives off -- softer or brighter -- depending on what I want at the moment.

On my kindle I attach the lamp to the left edge and adjust the neck to the angle I need, or I may attach it to the kindle cover. On hardbacks, I attach it to the back book cover and forget it. Since paperbacks do not have have a solid back to attach the Mighty Bright to, I just clip it to the thickest part of the book, leaving enough pages free to allow me to read a chapter. Then I move it so I can turn some more pages. Once I have enough pages turned, I can clip it to the left hand side of the book close to the binding and leave it in place longer. And because the battery compartment has a flat surface, the lamp can be stood up on a table or desk to light a work area if required.

I don't always use the lamp. For me it is more for emergency use when my power goes out or if I am on a night flight, so I can't give an estimate of what the actual battery life is. What I can say is that I have used several different book lights over the years, and the Mighty Bright is definiately the best reading lamp I have ever had.

Earlier versions were available in different colors; I have only found this one in black. Too bad. I really would have preferred kindle white.

Customer Review: Well made and effective
Summary: 4 Stars

Like others, I purchased this as it was the "recommended for Kindle" light. I'm happy to say that it's really enhanced my reading experience. I smoke outside and my balcony has poor lighting, so I keep this clipped above the sliding doors and use it when I take my Kindle outside with me. I read with the cover folded back, and this clips on with no problems, with the skinny part of the clip between the back of the Kindle and the cover.

The light is blue-tinged, as are most led-based "white" lights, but the color actually increases the contrast on the Kindle screen nicely (which is good, because the glowing white casing would otherwise drown it). It's very, very bright with both LEDs on, and still very bright in one-LED mode. The construction is fine, and the gooseneck is both very flexible and very stable once a position is found.

I've had very little problem with reflection off the Kindle. After a couple of times, I've found it quite easy to find a position that doesn't reflect off the screen or scroll bar. As hinted at above, the Kindle casing itself is another matter, but that's going to be a problem with any bright light.

My only wishes would be that it were a little smaller so it was more portable, and that the choice between one and two LEDs was on a secondary toggle switch instead of using a three-way on/off switch. I never want two LEDs on (it's just way too bright) so always have to double-click the on switch to turn it on.

Those are minor, though, and this book light works very well for me.
