Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light (Black, Kindle Version)Customer Review: Mighty BRIGHT With A Mighty Long Battery Life Summary: 5 Stars
I've had the Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light for almost a year now, and I absolutely love it! I'm able to attach it to a book or to my Kindle (version 1).
The Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light is also available in the following colors: Blue, Silver, Purple, Green, and Pink.
Pros
----
- VERY BRIGHT White Light
- Two Brightness Settings
(1) On the brighter setting, it uses both of its LED lights; (2) on the dimmer setting, it uses only one.
- Phenomenal Battery Life
The book light requires 3 AAA batteries to operate. My book light provides 15-20 hours of light before the light STARTS to be noticeably dimmer. The book light can provide about 35 - 40 hours of usable light before I have to replace the batteries (I use 1000 mAH AAA rechargeable batteries).
- Flexible Gooseneck
The gooseneck is extremely flexible; it can be twisted or bent. I can adjust the height and direction of the light with total ease. It comes in very handy for directing the light on the verso or recto as needed as you're reading.
- Compact and Lightweight
With a book in hand, I hardly feel the weight of the book light when it is clipped to the book.
- Rugged and Durable
The book light is well-made and has a rugged casing.
Cons
---
None. I honestly can't think of any!
The Xtra Flex 2 LED Book Light is both attractive and functional. Plus, it is very affordable and reasonably priced. You really can't go wrong with this one!
Customer Review: Best Light Yet Summary: 5 Stars
I've used many book lights over the years and have never been happy with any of them (at least till now). Generally my complaints have been:
1. They illuminate only part of the book forcing me to twist the book or the light.
2. Too heavy.
3. Use batteries too fast or require an adapter.
So I can't say I was happy about getting another one to use with my new Kindle. This time, however, I am impressed, both for use with my Kindle and with regular books. This light goes far in addressing most of my complaints...
1. Because of the long neck the light source is far enough away from the book (or Kindle) that it can illuminate both pages at one time. With the Kindle, which doesn't have two pages, the distance allows for "fine tuning" of the amount of light above and beyond the ability to select one or two bulbs.
2. Weight - this isn't perfect. I'd prefer something a bit lighter, but I haven't found it to be a major problem. I guess my problem isn't with the light itself, but with battery technology.
3. Using the LED lights seems to conserve battery life rather well. I've been using mine every night for two weeks without any noticeable drop in illumination. With others I've used I'd have had to swap batteries already, or have been forced to plug it in. I can live with the weight if the battery life is excellent.
My only real complaint is that sometimes when I shift around for a more comfortable reading position the lamp will shift positions as well as the flexible stem holding it up seems a bit on the loose side. I'd prefer it to be just slightly stiffer. This is really a minor complaint however, unless it loosens further with use.
Aloha! Bob
Customer Review: It seemed okay at first . . . Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered the Mighty Bright light along with the Kindle and case. It was promoted in such a way that I assumed it must be the best light for the Kindle, and had been made specifically for the Kindle. Another lesson in assumptions. It was annoying to use: heavy, hard to find a good spot to clip it onto, a pain to travel with, and I spent a lot of time adjusting the position so I could see the whole page. But I kept telling myself that since it was made for the Kindle, I just hadn't figured out the secret yet.
Then one night I turned it on and after a couple minutes of use I noticed the light dimming to the point where I could no longer read. I figured it must be time to replace the batteries, so I did. The new batteries worked fine the first night, but the second night they started dimming the same way after a couple minutes of use. By this time I had decided that this light wasn't right for me, even if it had been made for the Kindle (I'm gullible and still thought of it as the Official Kindle Light). So I started using a light that came with a Snuggie, and found that to be MUCH better. And free.
I lost my Kindle when I fell asleep on a flight and it apparently slid off my lap. So I bought a new one, and received an M-Edge cover as a gift. And then I ordered the M-Edge e-Luminator, which is absolutely wonderful (and stays tucked into the case, so is perfect for traveling). My Mighty Bright experience taught me never to assume (though I thought I'd already learned that); my airline experience taught me to put my Kindle back in my carry-on before falling asleep; and my M-Edge items taught me that it IS possible to find just the right products for me.
Customer Review: Mighty Indeed! Summary: 5 Stars
Initially I had bought a inexpensive LED book light for my KIndle from B&N, that was was nice simple, compact - all it needed to be right? But I dropped it once, about 3 feet to the hardwood and it stopped working. So much for that one. I had read raves for the Mighty Bright but its 3x what I paid for the B&N light. I gave it a shot anyway and i am very pleased - its very sturdy and well built. Its smaller than you think - pretty compact.
The flexible neck is extremely well done, it bends to just about any position and stays there nicely. This is a well built light meant to last years. You power it with 3 AAA batteries but it also has a power port if you buy the adapter. I bought a very small kodak value battery charger and some NIMH AAA's so I won't have to keep AAA's on hand.
The twins LEDs cast a TON of light and you can toggle it to one LED or 2. Also, the lens covering the LEDs really does spread the light very evenly so you don't have any hot spots. Glare isn't really an issue, just move the light around to avoid any glare, its not a problem for me. I like that it casts a pretty broad area of light and not just a small spotlight.
The Clip is also worth mentioning. First its a deep & wide clip, meaning you can really let it get ahold of what you have clipped it to. Also, the clip is padded so it stays more firmly in place and won't scratch what its clipped to. All the other book lights had these really tiny clips that were hard to manage or barely stayed in place.
All in all - wow - I guess not all book lights are created equal. If you do a lot of reading and want a reliable, no hassle light, this is the one to get.
Customer Review: Mighty Bright -- A Really Great Light! Summary: 5 Stars
I often wake up at night and can't get back to sleep, so I want to read, but without disturbing my husband. I found a Mighty Bright clip-on book light at a bookstore many years ago and I've been using it for almost as long as I can remember. It was the old style with a small bulb that burned out after a while and had to be changed. By the time I bought my Kindle 2 the last bulb I had for it had burned out and I couldn't find any more locally.
When I saw the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light for the Kindle I decided to get it, based on the quality and reliability of my previous Mighty Bright product. As good as the old one was, the new one is infinitely better. The new one, of course, has LED bulbs that should never burn out, and has two of them for adjustable lighting. One is enough for reading, and I wondered if I'd ever use both lights at once until one night when the electric went out. Not having a flashlight handy, I grabbed the Mighty Bright and found that using both bulbs it made an excellent, very bright flashlight.
The bendable neck is much better than the "adjustable" arm on the old light, too, in that the arm was only adjustable in one direction, but the bendable neck on the new one can be moved in all directions and will stay just where it's put until you move it again.
The other day I was reading my Kindle 2 in the doctor's office while waiting for him. When he came in and saw it he told me he has one and loves it. Then he told me about having gotten this absolutely wonderful night light to use with it, and started telling me about the Mighty Bright. So I guess this is two recommendations in one -- and we both love it!
