Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light (Black, Kindle Version)Customer Review: Great light, but don't clip directly onto your Kindle Summary: 3 Stars
I have two of these and use them all the time. However, if I clip it directly onto my kindle, it slides off . . . sometimes stays on but moves around on my kindle and I can't get it into a good position. I discovered that it has to be clipped to a kindle cover to make it work well.
It was many months ago that I tried to use it directly on the kindle. I was reminded of this when I listened to the Kindle Chronicles podcast this week. The host was interviewing the man who reviewed the kindle in The New Yorker last week and gave it a negative review. Part of his frustration was that he couldn't make the light fit on the kindle properly. He was using a kindle 2. I have a kindle 1. It doesn't clip onto either of the small kindle models. I doubt that it would work well with the KDX either.
Amazon should indicate that the user will have to clip this onto a cover or something else and not directly on the kindle.
This clip-on light works very well with paper books, especially the hard covers.
Customer Review: Not sure what makes this a Kindle version, but it's a VERY good light Summary: 4 Stars
Well, it's a light with a clip, but I'm not sure how that qualifies it as a Kindle version of the product. The clip is actually pretty bulky (it houses the battery), so it is by no means unobtrusive. It can clip on the Amazon cover if you have one, but becuase of the clip's bulk, it does pry the Kindle 2 off the back cover a good quarter inch. If you don't have the Amazon Kindle cover, you have to clip the light directly onto the Kindle 2, but there isn't much available real estate on the K2 for that; plus the slippery Kindle allows the light to fall over when you shift holding position (expect accompanying heart stoppage during this event as the clip nearly makes its way onto the beautiful, unblemished Kindle screen!).
But having said that, it's a very, very good light. Probably the best portable reading light I have tried. They really need to design one that clips on the side of the Kindle with a clip custom designed for the Kindle 2's dimensions. Or how about attaching to the Kindle 2 via the hinge feature?
Customer Review: Must have Kindle accessory Summary: 5 Stars
I frequently read at night and in bed, and my room has poor lighting to read by, so when buying the Kindle I knew I'd need a light. This device definitely fills that role.
The light easily clips onto the kindle cover, and I was able to turn it on with both lights and have no glare on the kindle screen. Maybe I got lucky, or I'm just not as sensitive to the glare as others who have reviewed this have been. Either way, the light works perfectly to illuminate the Kindle screen in the darkness.
Update (4/1, but no jokes!): Clipping the light onto the cover and holding the Kindle and cover open like a book (empty cover on left, kindle on right) allows me to raise the light "head" high enough so the light shines down from the top of the kindle. This way there is absolutely no glare on the screen.
The base of the light is large, allowing the light to be used in a free-standing mode. I can see this being useful for all sorts of different uses, though for me, it's only use will be for the Kindle.
Customer Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
I just purchased 20 reading lights to function as subtle stand lights for a musical ensemble I am in, and am so far very pleased. The additional cost for the batteries was a bit much (imagine purchasing 60 AAA batteries, since each light takes three), but I'm relieved that even after multiple shows and rehearsals, we are still on the first set of batteries.
The quality of the light is excellent, as well. The light is sufficient for reading, and casts a wide -- but specific -- ray of light, meaning that it will not bother nearby sleepers, or in our case, audience members. It is convenient that the light has two settings.
The Mighty Bright attaches well to a book or music stand and is far more compact than most stand lights. I would not recommend, however using wire stands without a folder to support the light.
The construction is sound and of good quality parts. If the longevity of the light proves to be what the other reviews say, I will be extremely pleased, but not surprised.
Customer Review: Best Book Light I've Ever Used Summary: 5 Stars
For Christmas everyone in our family received one of these terrific book lights as a stocking stuffer, and they all get used a lot. The unit is compact and very lightweight. Almost all of the weight comes from the 3 AAA batteries, which seem to last for about a month if you're reading for an hour or two before going to sleep each night - maybe 30 hours reading time if you're using both LED bulbs all the time. The infinitely flexible neck allows you to position the light EXACTLY where YOU want it, although the even, wide light pattern means you won't have to be too picky about it. The clip will work on paperback books, hardback books, or you can even clip the light to the headboard of your bed! The LED bulbs give off a cooler light than normal incandescent bulbs, so the light seems a little more "blue" than "yellow", which surprised me a bit at first, but I quickly got used to it. We love our Mighty Brights and we already need to buy a replacement since we accidentally left one behind when we came home from a trip!
