Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Midland AVPH2 Closed Face Helment Headset for Midland GMRSCustomer Review: Bad product design, don't buy Summary: 1 Stars
I was very excited to use this while on my motorcycle but I was very disappointed. I have a standard closed face Shoei helmet that fits me perfectly.
* First of all, wires everywhere. There are 5 different wires and they are all really long and with different lengths. What am I supposed to do with them, put zip ties to hold them? It is a very annoying task to tuck in the wires. The only solution I found was to have the wires through the jacket then out through the bottom and into your backpack or your pocket where the actual radio is. It is highly embarrassing to struggle with the wires in front of your friends or on the street. And you have to do that every time you take off your helmet. That itself was enough for me to return the product.
* Although the speakers are flat, they are not small. They take up the space that is reserved for your ears so that makes it very uncomfortable.
* The microphone piece is bulky and you can see the metal wires inside (looks cheap). When I took the helmet off the microphone piece flipped and the velcro totally scratched my forehead. That happened twice. It makes me wonder if this product passed QA.
* When you finally install everything you end up with a matrix of wires everywhere around your body. The connectors get easily unplugged and we had to stop 3 times to fix it within 10 minutes riding. When mine was working my friend's headset stopped working and vice-versa. We never got it to work.
Not to be a total downer, I have to admit that the sound is good (when it works). But really the hassle of getting the thing to work is just not worth it. I will be looking into a wireless solution because this was very frustrating.
