Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Midland WR100 Weather RadioCustomer Review: Easy to use and works as it should Summary: 5 Stars
After reading many of the reviews here I was uncertain if this was the best product for dependable use with our needs here in SE Texas. I went ahead with the purchase and received it in time for a trip to San Antonio during the torential downpours in that area during July. We put it to the test with many alerts of flash flooding, tornado alerts and many others in several counties around. It let us know without fail of each one long before the "poor TV reception" alerted us. I was able to setup multiple county alert tracking without any problems, no battery drain problems or any of the other questionable problems reported by others in their reviews. I believe that many of those issues complained about were due to not reading the manual and following its steps in sequence. If you do this you will be happy. Just an additional footnote on the difference between the 100b and the 100c, per Midland support personnel, they are the same product with different packaging.
Customer Review: You will not sleep through this alarm!! Summary: 5 Stars
If you watch mostly cable or satellite TV this thing could save your life. Since weather alerts are only on local channels, it is imperative you receive the relevant warnings quickly. After setting it to receive NOAA notifications for your area, you'll not be without proper warning. You cannot not hear this!! It would wake the dead!! And it is true that you cannot set it for the type of warning you want (for instance, you will get flood warnings whether you need them or not), it is your option to ignore the warnings not relevant to your situation.
I have had this radio for several years and it does an excellent job. My radio is kept in the bedroom, where it will wake me in the middle of the night. This is a good thing since I sleep like a rock and would not hear the tornado siren. And when not sleeping, generally DirecTV is on and I can hear the warnings through-out the rest of the house.
A must have as far as I'm concerned.
Customer Review: Midland WE-100B SAME Weather Radio Summary: 2 Stars
The problem I encountered with this radio is that you cannot select the particular alerts you want to receive. I purchased this monitor to alert me of any tornadios or serious weather potentially affecting my area. Since you cannot choose the weather alerts only, the radio is going to alert me (and wake me up) for any type of alert including Amber alerts and tests sent out from my county at all times of the day or night. I purchased a monitor from Radio Shack with a larger display that can pop up for better reading and I can choose the alerts I want to receive and it has been very good in sending only the alerts that I have chosen to receive. It also scans automatically for the best channel to receive braodcasts which the Midland WE-100B SAME Weather Radio does not. You have to choose your channel from a list according to your county. The Radio Shack radio costs a little more but not much more but it's features are well worth paying the difference.
Customer Review: I am ready to use it for target practice Summary: 2 Stars
This unit is enough to make you completely INSANE. If there is a way to set this thing to go off for ONLY tornado warnings I have not found it. This thing goes off nonstop. I am in Kansas right now, about 3 miles from the Missouri river. Between the thunder storm warnings, the flood warnings, the canceled warnings, etc the stupid thing goes off every few minutes during a storm. I DON'T care about the small stream flood warnings, the thunder storm warnings, etc. especially at 3 am. It goes off so much that we often give up and unplug the stupid thing. Currently there is a massive storm outside and this stupid thing has gone off at least a dozen times in the last hour. We gave up and unplugged it. I was so annoyed by the dumb thing I had to get online to post a warning. Make sure when you pick a unit that you can set it to ONLY warn you when there is a tornado or some REALLY sever weather, especially in the middle of the night.
Customer Review: Easy to program and it WORKS Summary: 5 Stars
I received this item just one week ago and I am extremely satisfied. I feel more secure knowing this weather monitor is on the job for me 24/7.
I tried to buy this right after the Lake Mary tornado in Florida last month. It was on back order due to many people waking up to the fact that there are more weather hazards than just hurricanes in Florida.I received the item exactly when promised. I got the proper SAME codes from the internet and found the unit easy to program and I am no geek. In the short time this unit has been in my home I have already received two alerts one for a tornado watch and one for severe thunderstorm watch in my area. The light goes off when the alert is lifted. The sound can easily be heard all over the house. An added feature is the weather forecast available any time. Much better than on TV, radio or weather channel. I recommended this to friends and neighbors. Be safe.
