Customer Review: All The Radio You Will Need

I bought this weather radio for it was made by Midland. A very old and reliable maker of weather gear and electronics. I also chose it for at the price of $30,(and free shipping), it was a bargain. I am happy to say that it has definitely turned out to be a very wise investment. The radio is small, receives excellent reception,(here in New England anyway) and most of all was a snap to program and personalize. You can also set the blue back light to remain on at all times, (although it is not mentioned in the manual, but easy to figure out.) Also, some other reviewers have mentioned that the alarm is very loud and cannot be adjusted. Although this is true, you have the option of setting the alarm to silent, with only the back light and scrolling alert being visible during an emergency broadcast. Unless you live in a very dangerous weather area, this is all most of us should ever need. If you do live in a dangerous area, then be happy the alarm is that intrusive! I highly recommend this radio for anyone that wants a no frills weather radio that still has all the features you will ever need.Customer Review: Be Aware! Be Ready!

My sister got our dad one of these and I was almost watering at the mouth.
I am an admitted weather nut.
My dad and I are amateur radio operators and weather spotters as well.
I bought this radio for several reasons, (1) Because of the price (2)Because of the brand (Midland) (3)Because I wanted a weather radio with the S A M E feature.
(4)Because of the fact it will operate with batteries as well as electric.
(5)The clock. I needed a bedside clock and this fit the bill for that.
All in all I am very impressed with this little radio and very happy with it's performance!
This is a great item and a great investment especially if you live in an area with extreme weather like tornado alley.
I don't live in tornado alley,but trust me Huntington,West Virginia and the surroundind area gets it's fair share of severe thunder storms and blizzards and flooding.
I much prefer being awakened by a beeep beeep beeep from this radio than to go uninformed during the event.
GET THIS RADIO! If for nothing else than for your own safety and peace of mind.
Customer Review: Everything I wanted in a emergency weather alert radio for the home

We live in Tornado Alley (Dallas Metro), and I bought one of these radios long enough ago that I can't remember how many years it was. At least 5 years ago, before we even moved to this area (Atlanta Metro before). It is still going strong. Reception is great, the features are just what we were looking for. Since we live right on the border between 3 different counties (the county lines form a "T"), I have it set up to monitor for severe weather conditions in all 3 of those counties. And only those 3 counties. Since this metro is considerably larger than just 3 counties, that is a blessing, or else we'd be bombarded with a plethora of warnings for threats that haven't gotten close enough to worry about (yet) or for threats that have already passed us by. I like how I can set it up to ignore threats that I'm not all that concerned about, too. And, the alarm is loud enough and annoying enough to "wake the dead" -- which given the purpose isn't a bad thing. After all, what good is the alarm if you sleep through it? I have no qualms recommending this unit to prospective buyers.

This is a good, dependable, basic weather/hazard radio. It was easy to set up and can monitor several counties. This is good if you live near the border of one or more counties. The directions do a good job of helping you find the codes for the counties you need. It does use batteries as a backup. This model, however, cannot delete watches, so you will hear every watch or warning given out, at any time of the day or night.
The radio can be set to use one of three types of alert modes: siren, voice, and red flashing light. Since the flashing light won't wake anyone in the night, your choices are siren or voice. You cannot adjust the volume, so be prepared to be jolted out of your sleep if a watch or warning is given during the night. There is also an alarm setting on the radio if you wish to use it for this purpose.
You can review any watches or warnings given while you were out by pressing a button on the machine. Anytime you wish to hear the current weather, you just push a button and you will be connected to the weather station for your area.

Very pleased with this radio, my only complaint and reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because I feel the documentation is incomplete. The Backlight feature in the menu mode is not documented, nor is the PC jack in the back of the radio or what appears to be an external speaker jack on the side of the radio.
Not toohard to figure out the options for the backlight, but it would be nice to have the options documented. Further, you'd think that any configuration that could be done through your PC would warrant a section of it's own. Nowhere to be found in the owners manual I received with the radio. As far as the external speaker jack if that's what it truly is, it would be nice to mention this feature as well in the manual and perhaps suggest an appropriate speaker to go with this unit (Cross-sell opportunity???)
Other than that, this unit was extremely easy to program, and exceeded my expectations on sound quality, volume, appearance and ease of use/functionality. Highly recommend aside form the documentation being poorly written.
