Customer Review: Great sense of security
Summary: 5 Stars

After the Feb. 2, 2007 Florida tornado, just 8 miles south of us, we purchased the Midland WR-100B SAME Weather....Monitor.
We have already had a real life test in a warning that came to us at 4:22am on Mar. 29, 2007. It warned us loudly enough that my husband, who has hearing difficulties, woke up. The sharp beeps, they written message saying "tornado warning" and the voice telling of the weather were great. We know now how well it works.
We had company from out of town that night. Even though it woke us all, we were quite assured that it works. We all agreed that a test run is good in that we were all a bit "befuddled" to be awakened from a deep sleep but we all managed quite well in reporting to our designated safety location.
We are quite pleased and reassured of our ability to reach a more secure area in a serious weather situation at a time when we have no other way of knowing what is happening.
When we purchased our Midland weather unit we also purchased a unit for our daughter, who also lives in Florida. We both found it fairly easy to set up the various settings and the clock. We haven't tried out the alarm clock yet. Thank goodness retirement doesn't require too many early morning events.

Customer Review: Works PERFECTLY for me

Now I know what you are going to say...a psychic should know when bad weather is coming..well I usually do. However, when I am fast alseep, that is another story....I recently moved to tornado country, and wanted an alarm system so that I would be aware of the storms in the middle of the night. Within days of purchasing this radio, it alerted me to a tornado around 1:30AM. I have had NO PROBLEMS AT ALL with this radio, it came to me in perfect condition.I easily programmed it myself (just turn off the weather alert switch to not hear the beeping), called NOAA for my SAME channels, and all was well, it only took about 5 minutes to have it up and running. This is a MUST HAVE for those who live where dangerous weather conditions exist. My only (STRONG) suggestion is to read all of the instructions carefully first! There are two receptacles on the rear where the AC plug can fit in, make sure it is in the correct one, or the unit will only run on battery , and when the battery runs out, no alarm system! I have had no trouble with this radio, and highly recommend it!Maybe being psychic helped me program it (That was a joke folks....) If you live where there is dangerous weather, and you want a dependable home based unit....BUY IT!

Customer Review: GREAT WEATHER RADIO !!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This Midland WR-100B is a must for every homeowner to have as a safety warning device.
I purchased mine in January after a tornado hit a town in indiana at 3:00 AM and caught many who were sleeping off guard and since then it has given us piece of mind at night and while we are sleeping. on most occasions the warnings are always 7 to 10 minutes ahead of the tv and radio alerts.
The LEDS advise you if theres a warning or a watch and it also scrolls along the screen along with a very loud auduble alarm, it also has the S.A.M.E. programming so you can pinpoint the correct NOAA weather station for your town or county eliminating false alarms that may alarm you from another area or town.

After having this radio I would not be without one and this radio performs great. There is also a red strobe light that you can purchase optional that also inhances the warnings at night to catch your attention should you be sleeping this also has performed well.

Overall this radio has performed great and has alerted us of a couple of tornado warnings and has given us ample time to react and prepare.

I hope this reveiw may help you this weather radio is a bargain for the price.

Customer Review: Midland Weather Radio
Summary: 5 Stars

Last month I was awakened in the middle of the night by a loud thunderstorm but I didn't think it was anything serious so I simply went back to sleep. Not until the next morning did we learn that the devasting tornadoes that hit Lady Lake, Florida, were less than ten miles from us. We don't have any sirens or other alarms that can warn us except those that appear on TV or radio. In watching the aftermath of the storms and hearing the concerns of others like me that weren't aware, I learned of the weather radios that can be programmed to sound an alarm when there are severe weather warnings. So I ordered the Midland WR-100B SAME Weather and All Hazards Alert Monitor With Alarm Clock. It is capable of airing the local weather bureau's continuous weather forecasts at the touch of a button and can monitor the local area to be ready to alert in the event of severe weather warnings being issued by the local weather service. Since I have had the radio (only a few weeks) we have had a couple of severe thunderstorm warnings and the radio sounded the alarm just as I expected it to. I feel much safer knowing that if something happens in the middle of the night again, I will at least have a chance to get ready.

Customer Review: This Is The One To Buy

There is no reason to spend more money on features that you do not need.
DO NOT waste your battery life on a weather radio with AM/FM buy a separate radio. S.A.M.E. works great but if you are not a boater and live near the water be advised you will get a lot of small craft warnings.
That being said in a storm you will get advanced warning of storm and land fall location in a hurricane.
Tornadoes , Hail and other weather emergencies are covered but with S.A.M.E. technology your warnings are localized and this is very important.
One note of cation , NOAA weather radio ( US Govt. ) sometimes uses towns that in everyday life we might not be accustom to so it is good to keep a state map with the radio so if the radio barks out a location that does not sound familiar you can find it.
Like smoke detectors , best to change back-up batteries every 6 months.
This is not a requirement for the radio but will extend useful life if caught with no power.
Keep a flashlight with the radio , in an emergency you won't have to go searching for one.
Have a plan in place before the storm and remember to speak to your children before any storm on what your family plans are
