Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Midland WR100 Weather Radio

Customer Review: Weather radio, where have you been my whole life??
Summary: 5 Stars

First, the bad. Tornado warnings aren't the only kind of alarms you'll get on this. There's been nights when it goes off every few hours due to thunderstorms or flood warnings, and the alarm is always the same until you head over to the unit to see what the brouhaha was about. It is loud enough to hear upstairs with the radio downstairs; since my husband works off shifts sometimes, that is a relief.

But this really is a great unit that's reliable and easy to use. The price is very reasonable and the radio is worth having for anyone in the path of potential tornadoes. I always worry that a storm will hit at night without warning or when the power is out and I can't get weather information. My worries have been put at ease. I also like that I can listen to the weather at my leisure, always a handy thing to have.

Customer Review: A Terrible Receiver
Summary: 1 Stars

I was completely disappointed with this radio. I live in the city where our local NOAA transmitter is located and this radio was almost unable to pick up the station. It produced horrible static and the signal would occasionally fade out completely. The reception was so poor as to be totally useless for SAME reception. I know that the problem is not due to our location as I have two other radios with weather band reception (without SAME) that work fine, and I have since purchased another weather alert radio by Oregon Scientific that picks up the station without any trouble.

I assume the unit that I purchased was defective, as I cannot believe anyone would positively review a radio that worked this poorly. I wish you the best of luck should you decide to purchase one.

Customer Review: It can be great but boaters or outdoor users beware
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought 2 of these devices a while back. These devices have alerted most of the time for me. However, if you leave this device out in the sun, in the heat, in a boat on the lake, IT WILL NOT WORK. Sometimes if inside the house and the sun hits it then it picks up nothing but static. Several times I have had them in the car with me and they have quit working. It really doesn't take much heat to cause this. Then If I bring them inside, put them in the freezor for 5 minutes, they work perfectly. I have never experienced anything like this with any other radio. Otherwise, the reception is excellent. I can pick up stations on 6 of the 7 frequencies. Also, the programming of this device can be a headache, but like anything else, once you get the hang of it, its easy to change channels.

Customer Review: Midland WR-100B SAME All Hazards Weather Monitor
Summary: 5 Stars

The WR-100B weather monitor has performed flawlessly since our purchase. We have had numerous flood and severe weather warnings in our home area this Spring. We do not have any sirens or weather warning facilities in our small comuunity. We set the WR-100B for our specific county per the instructions and use the VOICE warning mode. We found the TONE only mode was somewhat abrasive for a night time warning and you still had to get up to turn the unit to the weather. The VOICE mode gives a brief tone, then the weather broadcast for your area. Very convenient at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. We don't use the clock feature because we don't need it but if one wanted a clock-weather radio combination this unit would fit the bill. This is a good unit and well worth the purchase price.

Customer Review: Two thumbs up!
Summary: 5 Stars

What I love about this radio is that you can program in the codes for the counties that you are interested in and you will only be alerted if severe weather is in those counties. That way you aren't awakened in the middle of the night for weather that won't affect you. You find the county codes on the internet. Instructions for programming are very easy to follow. You hear an alarm then you hear the warning straight from the weather bureau. You get it the same time the local TV stations do. It is a lot better than one of those subscription services where they call you on the telephone.Midland WR-100C Weather / All Hazards / Civil Emergency Alert Monitor with S.A.M.E.
