The range on this radios is excellent. I have used them in a suburban area for a range of 3 miles without a problem. The 5 watts of output help. The menus are easy to use. However, the volume is not very high. A stronger speaker would help. The battery life for the rechargeables is great. The size is also good. I like the smaller antena vs. other models with long ones. I would have given it 5 stars if the volume was a little higher. I would definitely buy these radios again.Customer Review: A NICE PAIR!!

I've had these for only 2 days and I couldn't be happier. The range and clarity are great, even on low power. Even amongst trees and buildings, I was able to hear and transmit clearly for at least a mile to 1 1/2 miles. I've yet to use the high power feature on channels, 1-7 and 15-22 but I will very soon. I'm a weather spotter so these are going to come in really handy once Spring gets here in a few months. This set, for those whose wallets aren't bottomless, is as good as it gets. They come with compact headsets, the walkie-talkies have incredibly fast VOX response, they have a dock charger and come with chargeable batteries, the dock charger has an AC adapter and a cigarette lighter adapter, they're noise suppression systems are excellent and their range is great. The midland gxt 550 is really the kind of radio that Im looking for. When I received the radio after a couple of weeks, It was really what I expect - specially the color of the radio - I liked it very much. Transmit and receive is perfect. It's even more sensitive than icom f21gm. It's the best radio I ever had.
I'll buy more of them..

The radio set is very rugged; has up to 5 watts of power output; versatile battery system using rechargeable battery pack or common AA batteries for longer operation; The included headset/microphones are handy for high noise environments. And the price is very reasonable.
