Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 4000 (3.0) Silver PS2/USB Mac/WinCustomer Review: Wireless keypad and mouse Summary: 5 Stars
The wireless keyboard and mouse were purchased as a set (one box) on 12/27/07. They arrived very quickly and I installed them with haste. They were easy to install. I am enjoying the shape of the keyboard easy to use - for a 63 year old who never had typing - the extra buttons on the side and top of the keyboard really make this a step up from my old keyboard - and the mouse with its side to side motion also make its use really nice.
I visited my son two days ago and low and behold he has the same setup on his computer - for more than a year. I like the keyboard wrist rest and the angled shape. The price was right and reasonable. Wish I had more computers to purchase more keyboards for. Wireless is the way to go - no more junky wires all over.
Customer Review: Mouse aggravation Summary: 2 Stars
I like the keyboard well enough, though having the caps lock light on the receiver rather than on the keyboard itself is silly. The "F lock" thing was very frustrating to figure out. But I have no real issue with the keyboard.
The mouse is another story. The mouse generally does not function at all if it is more than two inches away from the receiver. Seriously, two inches. It really defeats the point of having a wireless mouse. My last wireless mouse was from Dell and I kept the receiver three feet away from the mouse with no issues whatsoever, so this new mouse is very frustrating. Weirdly, I can take the keyboard halfway across the room and it still works. The mouse also goes through batteries at an amazing rate.
Customer Review: Good While it worked Summary: 3 Stars
I bought the wireless version to try and avoid the number of wires under my desk and it worked pretty well for the first several months. the keyboard was smooth and the mouse fit very well in my hand. I started having problems with the mouse in that a number of times I found myself double and tripple clicking on websites. I had to move the wireless receiver right in front of the mouse.
Then last week, the green lights on the wireless receiver stopped as did the mouse and keyboard. After a fresh set of batteries and following the online instructions, they worked for a minute of so then failed again.
So I purchased the wired version of the keybaord and went back to the Logitech MX mouse.
Customer Review: Like it, no problems Summary: 4 Stars
I have had this keyboard for 3 months now, and we use is a lot, every day. I do not use the mouse as we like a trackball better, so can not say much about the mouse. Do like the keyboard, my only problem is for years I has the MS Natural keyboard so use to more of a curve...making me miss the 'j', etc a few times. No singlen or battery problems, yet at least. love all the extra keys that can be programed, in fact for me I will no longer get one that does not have keys you can program. (our last one was a multi media one). I am getting my 25 yr old daughter and will get this keyboard for her, just wish you did not have to get the mouse with it as she also wants a trackball, not a mouse.
Customer Review: Don't get more than one! Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased 2 of these to use in my office, side-by-side. Both keyboards fight for the same frequency, preventing both from being used at the same time. It's maddening! Microsoft tech support had no solution, and had not heard of the problem before. Changing the synch or other advice did not work. I spent weeks trying different things with thier tech guy. It seems Microsoft had not thought of this keyboard being used in a business enviroment. What a concept.
The keyboard itself is great, and performs fine. I even bought another one for home I liked it so much!
I'd give this keyboard 5-stars for home use, 0-stars if you plan on getting more than one. Don't do it!
