Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 3000Customer Review: UPDATE 12/12/08: Comfortable keyboard and mouse....BUT Summary: 3 Stars
UPDATE: After the post below, it started screwing up again. I think it's a software issue, as others have mentioned. I'm running XP Pro in a corporate environment, but all necessary drivers and software components are in place, so I'm at a loss. Keyboard still rocks though. I've gone back to a wired mouse, a Microsoft Optical Blue. Oddly enough, the scroll doesn't work AT ALL, and it used to. Intellipoint perhaps???!! Thanks Microsoft.....d'bags!
After reading tons of reviews about the issues many folks have had, I felt the need to weigh in. I use the MS Wireless Keyboard 3000 and Wireless Laser mouse 5000 at my job every day, and do lots of typing and surfing for research and documentation input. I've had the set for about a month now.
CONS
First of all, remove any versions of Intellipoint prior to 6.3. Trust me, this will help the stuttering and random actions of the mouse. I could barely use the mouse at all with Intellipoint 6.2 installed, and the autoupdates don't fix the issues. I had to totally unistall 6.2, and downloadn Intellipoint Pro 6.3 before the mouse was usable, and it still hangs occassionally or you have to click to get the scroll to work on some pages when surfing. The keyboard itself works great, although no indicator lights of any kind on it. It does rely on the Intellitype software to show you via popups in the toolbar if your Numlock or Fn key is activated. The mouse or the wireless USB receiver seem the be the problem children here. As stated, version 6.3 of the software (use the Pro version..) for the both keyboard and mouse do help. Be sure and configure the keyboard for YOUR specific needs also...the default assignments on the upper bank of keys is a bit stupid.
PROS
Great feel to the keyboard, solid keystrokes, no clunkiness.
