Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Wheel Optical MouseCustomer Review: SIMPLE and RELIABLE - two words that are becoming rare these days Summary: 5 Stars
Having used Microsoft and other brands of "mice" for for over 30 years, I keep migrating back to Microsoft. Forget the hype or the trends, Microsoft, -- hands-down, -- makes the most durable mice products on the planet. No hassles, so transparent, so simple and so reliable. Use of the value-added software is OPTIONAL, -- meaning, the mouse is truly PLUG n' PLAY. It works directly out of the box, without installing the optional CD. Installing the software later, after the fact, certainly adds additional features and options, and is recommended, but it is NOT REQUIRED to use the mouse straight out of the box. I lost count of how many other brands of mice I have (in the surplus bin) that won't work simply because the software or the drivers are missing. I have never experienced that problem with Microsoft. They just manage to "work", --- anyway. For me today, using any other brand is, -- NOT an option.
Customer Review: Great basic Opitcal mouse Summary: 5 Stars
Traditional mice tend to need cleaning every now and then, and their ability to collect dust can make them very impratical. Optical mice are the solution to this problem. They use optical sensors to track the movement of the mouse, eliminating the need for cleaning the mouse, and for a mousepad.
Optical mice are great, and this is a great basic optical mouse. The optical technology in this mouse is good. The sensors track the movement of the mouse very well, and with good precision. I have run some demanding programs, and this mouse seems to work fine within them. The included Intellimouse software extends it capability, and makes the features customizeable. It also lights up, which is a neat feature.
Overall, it is a good place to start if you are looking for a basic, and inexpensive optical mouse.
Customer Review: bad scrolling Summary: 2 Stars
Although this mouse has great response, the scroll feature is ridiculously inept. I installed the software, as instructed, but it is of little value. When scrolling, the scroll wheel has little clicks that you can feel. Each click runs the mouse down WAY too many lines. On most pages one click takes you almost to the end of the page. There is no setting anywhere in the software to change this. If you like manually dragging the slider down to move down a page in smaller increments, then fine. Otherwise don't bother with this mouse. I wish I hadn't bought it, and since it completed a $25 free shipping order, I won't hassle with the return. I'll just end up putting it in a drawer for emergencies and will replace it next week with a better one. You get what you pay for.
Customer Review: Perfect for Every Day Use Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great every day mouse. If you're looking to upgrade from the old fashion track ball mouse, this is the perfect product for you. No more mouse pads, no more taking your mouse apart to clean the track ball or the inside rollers every month or so. I always hated that I had to open up my old mouse and clean out the crud that would build up in there and interfere with it's basic operation. One thing I have noticed though is that with the scroll wheel, sometimes when scrolling down a page it will go that one extra click on it's own. It's not a big deal at all, but it's just one of those glitches you notice. Not even enough to take a star away though in my opinion. For the price, this is one of the top optical mouse's you can buy.
Customer Review: Nice mouse Summary: 4 Stars
This mouse is sleek and simple. Simple 3 buttons and wheel (third button is the wheel), none of that 10+ button nonsense you find in more expensive mice. The little red window under the "Microsoft" lights up. Had it for some time and it works great.
This mouse is also unusually light, so consider that if you're use to heavier mice like the first MS intellimouse. Also the wheel is very light compared the my old intellimouse. By light I mean it's easier to turn with your finger, which can be a good thing or a bad thing. Document scrolling can be faster, but accidental weapon switches can occur while gaming. Click sound is also different (in pitch, not volume). My old mouse "clicks", this mouse "clucks". LOL.
