Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Optical Mouse (Blue)

Customer Review: Solves one problem, introduces another
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought the Microsoft optical mouse because the ball mouse skipped and stuck sometimes, especially after it got used for a few months. My XP system found and used the new mouse without any user interface required. It's smooth and soft to use. The shape fits my hand well. The one problem is location stability. Every now and then the pointer jumps to some far corner of your screen (or to the other screen if you have two). That's especially irritting when you thought you were going to click on one place and you click on something you had no intention of clicking. Random clicks are bad enough on web sites, but in a word processing applciation they can delete your last ten minutes work. You end up being watchful before clicking to make sure the pointer is where you left it. I give it 4 stars because otherwise it works well and is priced reasonable.

Customer Review: Sometimes you get what you pay for
Summary: 2 Stars

...and sometimes you don't. Nothing wrong with the mouse on arrival. Cheap and cheerful. Several months on, it's tracking poorly and the cursor skipping. Very fussy about what surface it's used on (mousepad is best) and too much or too little pressure causes it to simply stop tracking. It's either got gunk/dust in the lens or a loose wire. Whatever it is, it's not happy. At the price of a new one, it's not worth shipping back for repair/replacement. Standard disposable item.

Trouble is, the two Kensington basic USB mice I ordered at the same time are working perfectly still (we bought 3 different mice to compare them in the office), cost about $2 less, and have vastly superior software (particularly on the Macs). I'd vote against this one.

Customer Review: Long lasting and well made
Summary: 5 Stars

Recently, I started looking to see if I could get another one of these, but it seems that they are starting to vanish.

I have used this same one mouse for 7 years along side my omnikey 102 keyboard, and its stood the test of time. The top is now polished, and were my thumb rests it is no longer silver, but white, and it still functions perfectly.

Maybe I was lucky, but this mouse is one I will never give up. I may start looking around to see if I've been missing out on other, more comfortable mice, but this is one mouse that will always have a place on, or near my desk.

If you have a choice, try this mouse out. It may not be the fanciest mouse out there, but its reliable, and extremely well performing.

Customer Review: Begins well... but later on... ehhh...
Summary: 2 Stars

Well, here's the thing. I liked this mouse when I first got it. After all, its optical, it feels nice on my hand, and controls well.

But later on down the road...

The track ball has gotten stuck. Don't know how, don't know why, but when scrolling, it gets to a point and STICKS. This is extremely frustrating when playing online video games where speed is essential.

This, in itself, wouldn't be much of a problem if there was a way to open it and clean it. But... there's none. No screws, nothing that pops off... its just one solid unit.

So, if you're looking for a temporary mouse, then this might be for you. But if you want one that will last more than 3 months... look elsewhere.

Customer Review: A Perfect Fit !
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the second time I have purchased the Microsoft Optical Blue Mouse,
and am sure it won't be the last. I have small hands and this mouse is a perfect fit, whether you are right or left handed. I love the red light that shows when you use the mouse. The curser control is 100% accurate, with no wandering of the curser. You don't need a mouse pad, as this mouse glides smoothly over a desk surface, without dragging or slowing down.

It's like this mouse was made especially for me. Just in case microsoft ever quits making this mouse, I have bought 2 extra ones, so I will never have to use an inferior one. Try it, like I did and you will be hooked for life !
