I was in need of two webcams. I bought this (the Microsoft LifeCam) and a less expensive webcam, a generic Flexible 5.0 Megapixel USB PC Camera with Microphone. The generic webcam was super easy to install and the sound worked great! The Microsoft LifeCam requires software installation, and I could not get the sound to work at all. I was very disappointed. Perhaps it was just this camera and the rest are better, but I am returning the LifeCam and getting two of the other.Customer Review: LifeCam VX 1000

This is a simple and reliable webcam that is optimized for Windows Live Messenger and works superbly with Windows Vista. It lacks the bells and whistles that I don't need or want. It has a microphone built into it so the whole unit just perches on the top of my flat screen monitor and is ultra-simple to operate--just like I wanted. There are many more generations of this webcam by Microsoft that cost alot more money, but you simply won't get as much value for your dollar.Customer Review: Worth every penny

I bought this webcam mainly due to the low pricing and expected not too good quality from it. But I was proved wrong. This webcam performs better than i expected it to. The only problem i see with it is that its stand is a bit clumsy for a laptop. Otherwise, it is a great product for the cost. Its quality can be seen in one of the video reviews posted here by another user.
People who are looking for a cheap webcam without compromising much on quality, this is for u.

I'm not a high tech person. I bought this to use for skype and needed a camera with a mic. This is DEFINITELY worth the money. I don't use a lot in low light so I don't care about that feature. It does not zoom, which is why I rated it a 4 in overall performance, but does have a manual focus. If you're looking for something that does the job, and you're not into high-tech video conferencing, then this is the camera for you. I ordered this webcam based on the ratings. It was not working properly and I took my computer (which is new) back to the store and was told it was sent with old software. They installed the new software but the cam freezes when I use it on Yahoo Messenger. None of my friends with cams have this problem. I was told to try Skype, but I don't know anybody else who uses that program. So, I have a web cam that is useless to me. I would not recommend this product.
