Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Digital Media Pro KeyboardCustomer Review: Excellent Keyboard! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this keyboard.
After searching through just about every keyboard available, I was torn between this and a gaming keyboard that was triple the price. I'm so glad that I chose this one.
It is excellent! The quick access buttons are great and you can set them up almost any way you want. It's a great keyboard for gaming, office use, media or just ordinary, everyday use.
They keystrokes are effortless and near silent. The slide zoom feature is cool, but I don't use it much. It's better to have something and not need it than to need it and not have it though.
I really love the quick access buttons which allow me to pull up my files, e-mail or web pages with immediate ease. The only thing I don't like about this keyboard is the sleep button. I NEVER use this and I can't see any way to reasign it. However, it is out of the way and not a big enough deal to lower my rating of this sweet keyboard.
Aside from all of that, how can anyone complain about a keyboard of this quality for such a great price. And it was delivered the day after I ordered it.
To top it off, it feels sturdy and well made. I would reccomend this keyboard to anyone. It is a great all around keyboard with either USB or PS2 connectability.
Customer Review: A good contender Summary: 5 Stars
I've had the keyboard for only a few days, but so far, things look good. I am using the USB option on a Compaq EVO desktop. I immediately tried the function keys during boot-up due to concern about an earlier reviewer's remarks. My system has no problems recognizing the function keys during boot-up, provided you have the function lock (F-Lock) button turned on. The keyboard has all twelve function keys mapped for various quick-keys including Undo, Open and Print. They will mimic these "mapped" functions unless the F-Lock key is pressed; if so, then the "normal" function of the F-key will occur.
The feel of the keys is a little stiff for me, but overall, the keyboard functions well. There are also other quick keys for playing multimedia items, opening mail and your home page as well as five customizable keys. There are also buttons to bring up the calculator, logoff and put you computer into sleep mode. The zoom function appears to perform differently in different applications. I've tested it in Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Reader. The zoom works in those cases. It also works in MSPAINT and performs a text sizing adjustment in web pages with text. I haven't tested it with anything else.
Customer Review: Wonderful workhorse of a keyboard Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using this keyboard for years and continue to be impressed at its comfort and utility. Every so often I try out a new keyboard, but have never found anything that even comes close to the Digital Media Pro.
I find the keys perfectly weighted - not too light, not too heavy. The wrist rest is nicely positioned to keep me comfortable for hours on end. It's corded but I don't see that as a drawback - I just don't get why a cordless keyboard is of value for a desktop PC.
The best feature is the programmable keys. Using the included software, you can re-map many of them to whatever feature you want. I use several of them to launch applications with a single press, or bring up directory views of files. There are also five keys you can link to a URL (for example, my Amazon cart is one of the keys). The latter feature is so helpful that I wish there were more keys that you could map to a URL.
Durability has been great - zero problems even though I have not exactly taken the best care of it.
This is one of the few Microsoft products that I've never felt the urge to curse because it doesn't work as it should! Highly recommend.
Customer Review: Beware of End of Production Run! Summary: 3 Stars
I had to get two of these keyboards to get one that worked. The first had no or intermittent response from the "2" (in the QWERTY field) and "x" keys. The second had perfect keystroke response, but the "ALT" key on the left of the SPACE BAR had a red scratch on it...like a streak of nail polish. I can marginally accept that, but lack of or intermittent keystroke response was totally unacceptable. In fact, it was particularly annoying when trying to enter a password that needed either of those keystrokes.
As I titled my review, I'm guessing that since the product is discontinued, MS may have tried fixing and shipping the "boneyard" keyboards and didn't do a very good job of sorting out the bad ones from the good.
I like the functionality of the keyboard - especially the "Favorites" keys and the double definitions of the function keys. They'll speed up inputing while working just about any application.
Be advised that there's an update to the keyboard software, and I suggest you follow the instructions, install the version that comes with the keyboard, make sure all is working and then download and install the revision.
Customer Review: Great keyboard, nice looking too Summary: 5 Stars
This keyboard looks great and just "feels right". I should note that I'm one of those "older" computer users (49 years old) who grew up with electric typewriters and then the early PCs. So maybe that influences what seems "right" to me. But I would think that even younger users will love the feel of this keyboard.
I tried to go a cheaper route with one of those "superman" keyboards at about half this price, but I found it essentially unusable due to my style of typing. I can type fairly quickly, and this keyboard doesn't slow me down or cause unexpected errors. I don't use the "bonus" keys at the top (such as for e-mail and internet surfing), but the basic keyboard here is well worth the price to me. Not that this is particularly expensive, but I see no need to pay a lot more.
Let me also note that the black "wristwrest" part at the lower part of the keyboard is detachable. Leaving you with just a silver keyboard look along the bottom. I find removing the black plastic "wristrest" to make the keyboard more useful and more attractive than in the main picture.
