Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard 3000Customer Review: Great Keyboard...two minor annoyances Summary: 4 Stars
I love this keyboard, it has a nice footprint so it fits on my desk, but still has lots of features. First off, the keys feel great. I'm not a big fan of this style of keyboard (the desktop kind, I like the laptop keyboards that are very clicky and have great feedback, the key snapping back and snapping down action) whereas desktop keyboards never have this as the new trend is mushy and super quiet, and you're typing...but you don't FEEL it. This keyboard is a nice balance, I've felt far mushier, but I've also felt much clickier...if that makes sense. The spacebar on mine is a little mushy for my taste, but whatever, it's just the spacebar it's not like you can "miss" it. The shortcuts at the top are GREAT for working in office 2007, as you almost never use the F keys, but if you do need to use the F keys, it's nice that they do have an f LOCK button instead of weird combinations. It will stay F locked even if you restart, don't know how it's done, but it's really no problem if you need your F keys for whatever reason. The media keys are great, I primarily bought this because the media keys on my old keyboard weren't working, and it was such a pain to have to go into WMP to skip a track when working on a report, especially when you have a train of thought going.
The only problem that I have with the keyboard is the two little feet in the back you use to prop the keyboard up. I usually like my keyboard propped, but not SUPER propped. The feet on this thing raise it up a mile off the table and I really don't like it. So, now I'm forced to learn to type flat. This isn't that big of a deal, because the keyboard by itself is sort of slanted up, and I suppose it's better ergonomically, but it took a while to get used to and still feels weird sometimes going to school and always having to prop the keyboard down.
Overall, if you are looking for a good wired keyboard with lots of media settings and tons of customization, get this. You can't get a better keyboard for less than thirty dollars in my opinion.
***EDIT***
I just noticed (after a couple days of use) that the left control button is actually smaller than the right???? what??? Most of the time, the left control button is used because of commonly used shortcuts such as copy paste cut save undo, etc....Why didn't they just move the spacebar and the other buttons down shrinking the right control to let the left one be either the same size or even slightly larger, the roles should really be reversed here.
