Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000Customer Review: Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 Summary: 5 Stars
I have a new MacBook Pro Notebook and have been looking tirelessly for a wireless mouse, preferably bluetooth, since the macs are bluetooth ready as a standard feature. Unfortunately, most wireless mice are usb, requiring you to plug a usb adapter into your laptop everytime you want to use the mouse. I guess they work fine, but inconvenient in my mind. If you leave the adapter in all the time, you risk having it fall out or get caught on something and break, since it obviously protrudes from the side of the laptop. After extensive research, found selection of bluetooth mice quite limited. Either came only in white, such as Apple's own mouse, which will be filthy in no time, or ugly colors and crazy non-ergonomic shapes. Finally found this Microsoft bluetooth mouse at best buy for $50. Then did some online research, found mostly good reviews, including another mac book user, and to top it all off, found it here at amazon for $35 & free shipping! I was stoked. Took the other one back to best buy. Received from Amazon in a couple few day, well packed and no damage, as always. Works fantastic! Connects immediately, no lag or waiting, and performs flawlessly, just like a wired mouse. Very comfortable. Have used for about a month now and couldn't be happier, even if I had spent the $50. Great price just icing on the cake. If you need a bluetooth wireless mouse, look no further. Great product at (almost) any price. Quite pleased with our decision.
Customer Review: Completely useless under Windows 7 64-bit Summary: 1 Stars
I really had high hopes for this mouse. I really wish this would have been different. Bluetooth is not a new technology so I guess I was expecting too much for Microsoft, the company who wrote the Windows 7 to build a mouse that works with their own operating system. I did not even bother to call tech support because I know they would have blamed my laptop for this, but I use Bluetooth devices all the time and never had such a problem.
In case you're wondering, the mouse paired up with a laptop right away so I thought" great" but in about a minute, the mouse lost contact with the laptop. I turned it off I turn it on - nothing. About 2 min. later, I shook the mouse and start to work again only to die in about 30 seconds. I reinstalled the mouse again and the same thing happen again.
So while I generally respect Microsoft for both their hardware and software (I also bought their miniature keyboard which has a plug-in USB dongle) this is an absolute piece of junk. There's just no excuse for not testing the mouse with the newest flagship operating system. Who knows? This may work with the other Windows or other laptops but it did not work on my Lenovo i7 machine.
As I type this, that POS is going back to Amazon. Instead, I bought a regular wireless mouse with a USB transmitter for half the price and it works like a charm. I was hoping to keep my USB ports free, but I guess it's a small price to pay.
Customer Review: Almost perfect mouse Summary: 4 Stars
I like this mouse because it is a [good] Bluetooth notebook mouse, which are few and far between. It's small size makes it convenient to transport with my laptop, which is important for those who are always moving. And being that it's a laser mouse, it works flawlessly on many surfaces, including my carpet and even my lap, which adds to the on-the-go convenience this device offers.
Since it's Bluetooth and my notbook has Bluetooth connectivity, there is nothing to attach to the notbook itself, such as a USB adapter that would be required of other types of wireless devices. The Bluetooth communication also works at great distances from the computer, such as across the room, which allows for remote-like usage when doing things such as listening to music or watching a movie.
A few flaws that I've encountered with this purchase would not have stopped me from buying it had I known about them beforehand. First, the wheel is not as fluent as I'd like, which is only a very small annoyance. Second, the third button on the left side was easy to accidently press with my thumb, acting as a 'back' button when navigating websites. Although this was annoying at first, I was able to slightly adapt the way I hold the mouse and it is rarely an issue anymore.
Considering the price, size, and ease of use, I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a simple and portable Bluetooth solution.
Customer Review: Scroll wheel is terrible, doesn't scroll right. Mushy buttons in wrong places. Summary: 2 Stars
First, the Bad - this outweighs the good. This mouse is just a little too small, with the buttons in the wrong place. If you perhaps were a small child, this might be a good mouse. My hands are not large, I'm just an average sized guy, but you have to hold this mouse way back to be able to get all the buttons, wheel, and the side button. This leaves half of your hand off the mouse, it's very awkward.
Worse is, it's one of those mice where the Scroll Wheel clicks as it scrolls (a good thing!), but the actual scrolling doesn't match well to the clicks - sometimes it will scroll twice for a single position, and sometimes not at all. Overall, it's uncomfortable and somewhat jarring to use because of this. The button presses feel a little mushy on the left button, however the right button is crisp. Microsoft didn't ship intellipoint with the mouse, and if you go to their site, it's not listed either. The mouse works in both Windows and Mac, but Intellipoint doesn't recognize it as a "microsoft" mouse, so you can't assign the buttons. I had to use a third party app to do this. Apparently this mouse hasn't been manufactured in a long time, and wasn't well supported when it was.
Now the good - The pointer movement feels right (not too fast, not too slow). I think that's it.
I would probably rate this a little higher (3 stars), if I were not a scroll-wheel user. Or maybe a masochist.
Customer Review: Good fit for hand, few gripes Summary: 4 Stars
I just bought this mouse yesterday and based on first impressions only (bad review, BAD REVIEW!), I'd say I like this mouse.
The good: It fits my hand well, despite my hand being a bit larger than average. The mouse click is nice and quiet, but the feeling of that click in your hand is pretty satisfying. It glides around my mouse pad at home, and around my desk at work without one. It even works fine on my couch and carpet. I can't tell you about battery life, but if you turn off your mouse I you have very little to worry about. The pointer travels without hiccups. I also like the Cadillac white pearl finish.
The bleh: Unlike my optical mouse, I cannot run this one across my polar bear pajama pants and get the same smooth pointer motion. Not a big deal. The scroll wheel, for ME is kinda beastly compared with my other mice. The scrolling is therefore not as smooth ... this may just be an issue of breaking the thing in, so ... guess it isn't fair to review it on that.
The personally annoying: The bottom has seven stickers (including the feet), and the edges are rough. Running this thing over my carpet for a few seconds, the sticker edges caught hair and lint. This is only irritating, as I like my stuff dust/hair free. The feet at least could have had smoother edges ... or been sunk into the chassis a little farther.
I recommend this mouse!
