Customer Review: SNOW LEOPARD COMPATIBLE !!! great mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

i have no idea why everyone is saying its NOT compatible with snow leopard, it IS compatible, however you need to install software to make it work, it needs a driver like most hardware, you need Microsoft Intellipoint 7.0 NOT 6.3, NO software is included with the mouse, but its fine, i found the software online, just google "Microsoft Intellipoint 7.0" its the first link!

it will not work however if you boot into 64bit, its 32bit by default, Microsoft will have an update for 64bit by October their website says, so install Intellipoint and then connect the mouse via bluetooth, it'll work perfectly! you can then customize the buttons and settings of the mouse in the Intellipoint utility (which can be found under Settings>Intellipoint at the bottom of the Settings Window when you open that, according to the MacLife review they said you CANT customize buttons, well theyre wrong

small mouse, but great ergonomics for my relatively big hand, im 5'11" 180lbs and this is a great addition to my brand new MacBook Pro, ive been using it for photoshop while at my desk and its comfortable, waaaay better than the mighty mouse, a little light but thats not necessarily a bad thing, scroll wheel is a little loud but whatevs, plus it works great on almost any surface even on my jeans!

Update 10/8/09: intellipoint 7.1 and fixes all bugs and now works with full 64bit Snow Leopord

Customer Review: Worked great, for awhile, but now doesn't even work as a paperweight
Summary: 1 Stars

This device paired with my laptop perfectly, right out of the box. It worked flawlessly until the day it needed its first battery change. After changing the batteries, it would not pair with my notebook. Google it yourself. This mouse often just stops working. Mine is only a few weeks old and it positively will not connect any longer with the notebook it paired with, without fault, until the first battery change.

Unfortunately, it's not heavy enough to function as a paperweight.

Online support for this mouse is practically non-existent. If it breaks, your only alternative is to throw it away. Hopefully, you'll have a backup mouse with you, when that happens.

I'm going to chalk up this purchase as a big mistake and will purchase a nice, reliable USB-connected mouse. In principle, though, that next purchase will not be a Microsoft mouse. They've already got way more of my money than they deserve.

UPDATE: I got the mouse working again. But, now I've found that Microsoft IntelliPoint (ver 7.x for Vista x64) barely supports Microsoft's mouse. The wheel button isn't configurable, using Microsoft's software, and will not even provide the defaulr 3-d flip function, for mice with wheel buttons. IntelliPoint lists a ton of Microsoft mice, but does not include, on the list, a setting that matches the name of this Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000. Go figure.

Customer Review: Too many little annoyances
Summary: 1 Stars

I liked the idea of having a laptop mouse that does not require a dongle so I was willing to put up with the slow wakeup time which others have reported, but now that I have used this for a few months I really dislike it.

Compared to my old Microsoft Optical Mouse for Portables (model 1023) the battery life is about half as long which is annoying enough, but when you go to replace the batteries (which is quite often) they are located in a deep well with a plastic sleeve which you are supposed to pull on to get the batteries out. However, the sleeve is too short and you have to use needle-nose pliers or hemostats to reach into the well to grab it. It is not that the sleeve got folded over and became too short, it was actually designed that way.

My other issue (as others have reported) is that it appears to have a lower resolution. Compared to my old optical mouse the cursor arrow moves faster when I move the mouse the same distance which makes it hard to grab items and "nudge" them short distance. When the control panel settings are changed to match the smoother feeling of the old mouse then the cursor does not move as fast but the movement is jerky compared to the old mouse.

Hopefully Microsoft will correct these issues since I really like the convenience of a (dongle-less) Bluetooth mouse, but until then it's back to my old optical mouse for now.

Customer Review: Great device, when it works... very flaky performance, especially with Windows 7
Summary: 2 Stars

I loved this mouse when I first got it. It's the perfect size for my hand, and it's portable. The bluetooth was a great added feature because it meant that I didn't have to waste a USB port on anything that plugged in.

However, now that I have used this mouse for awhile, I realize that the Bluetooth isn't what it's cracked up to be.

This mouse worked fine under Windows XP. But ever since I upgraded to Windows 7, this mouse spontaneously unpairs itself every day. Usually it's fine if I uninstall it and then reinstall it, but lately it's stopped even doing that. When I try to add it as a new Bluetooth device, the Windows 7 interface just displays "Searching for devices... make sure your device is discoverable..." and never finds the darn device!

Occasionally it will find the device, but will then ask for a pairing code (which is supposed to be 0000) but that doesn't work either, because then Windows 7 flakes out with an "unknown error" excuse.

I thought buying a Microsoft Mouse would make this mouse perfect to use with all versions of Windows but I am sadly mistaken. It's too bad, because this mouse has a really nice design, feels nice in the hand and is a good size.

Unfortunately due to the fact that it's completely unreliable, I cannot in good conscience recommend this mouse. Please save your $30 and buy something else.

Customer Review: It's.... okay
Summary: 3 Stars

I got this mouse pretty much sight unseen. I couldn't find any other Bluetooth mouse that was full-sized, so I looked around reviews before getting it.

I've used it four days now. It's dropped the connection randomly twice, each time requiring a power cycle. Upon coming out of sleep, I've had to power cycle it twice before it would connect. Bearable.

I've got big hands, but pretty much with all but full-sized Microsoft mice I hold it with my thumb and ring and pinky fingers, and this mouse's size doesn't help. I've gotten used to this.

The big thing that rankles me is that the detent on the scroll wheel makes it very hard to turn, so unless my hands are totally clean and dry, I don't get enough friction on the wheel to turn it and I inadvertently press the middle mouse button. Other people that use this mouse have the same problem. I'm seriously thinking of opening it up to see if I can soften or remove the detent.

I'll consider trying out one of the Logitech cordless mice, but I hate to use a USB port. If Logitech would only come out with the VX Nano in Bluetooth.

UPDATE: After using this for a while, the mouse got into the habit of dropping the Bluetooth connection two or three times a day, requiring a power cycle each time. It got to be an annoyance so much that I ditched it in favor of the Logitech VX Nano.
