Win7 HTPC.
I have a drawer full of mice and other Human Interface Devices. All the major manufacturers and a bunch of no names are collecting dust in there. Now after two months of steady use, I can finally put the mouse part of the puzzle to bed.
Here's some cons. The Arc is goofy looking, and for a lefty it, like so many other gadgets, has a design challenge. In this case that challenge is the "back" button placed on the left side where it sits comfortably under the thumb of a right hander but for a lefty it requires careful placement of the left middle finger. You adapt. It's a lefty thing.
The color I chose (a rusty reddish) is awful but for that reason alone it's cheaper than its more conventionally colored counterparts.
Some pros. The design takes some getting used to but it is lightweight and comfortable. I have big hands and it fits well in my grip but clearly it was designed for people with smaller hands.
The folding hinge thing is a winner. It can clearly travel well although I don't need that function. For me it's just a clever and easy to deal with off switch that eliminates the irritating "bump" factor that interrupts my TV revelries, especially in Media Center. It seems that just when I get fully engrossed in a movie someone (mostly me) knocks the mouse and the various controls overlay the action waiting for my commands. Buzzkill. Anyway, I am getting better at shutting the mouse off due to the hinge factor of the Arc. Good stuff.
It tracks great. My armchair is my mouse pad and this mouse operates as well on the leather as it does on the tabletop or the placemat or my leg, jeans or shorts, or even on a real mouse pad. Best tracking I have ever run across. Big win.
The dongle is a mini which will endear it to many, especially the mouse mobility inclined since the little fella has a nice crib hidden on the belly of the mouse and well retained when the hinge is flipped closed. A good solution but unnecessary for my use. What is necessary is that I get consistent signal between mouse and computer. Bingo! Unerring signal from 10 to 12 feet across the room and... I mounted the dongle to a USB board that is inside my HTPC. Yep, cover on, tucked in a cabinet, it is still as good as wired. No lag, no futzing around getting the mouse on point. It just works. Whoda thunkit?
In daily use averaging let's say about four hours computer time, this mouse just demanded new batteries after a little less than two months use. Not the best I've seen but not the worst either. I'm good with new bats every 7 or 8 weeks.
Better than bluetooth mice, better than any of dozens of wireless solutions that I have tried. I have not always been a fan of the gang in Redmond and try to share the wealth with other manufacturers as best I can but in this case, Bill Gates guys and gals hit on all eight. This mouse is a cut above in form and function. Having beat this little guy up for two months I won't buy anything else. Just don't look at it, especially the red version.
