Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Arc Mouse - BlackCustomer Review: Unreliable Mouse - from an IT Perspective Summary: 2 Stars
This Microsoft ARC mouse feels good to the touch, but unfortunately over time it may or may not continue to function correctly. Microsoft's recommended "fix" does not work either. We have experienced the following problems with these mice:
-intermittent errors - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
-system stop's recognising the mouse altogether.
-mouse pointer will not function.
Installing and configuring the appropriate Intellipoint software will not fix these problems because 99% of the problems with this mouse are caused by a physical defect within the device itself. The scroll wheel is poorly constructed and tends to break or slip which in turn causes the mouse to lose functionality. To "fix" this mouse you would literally have to dismantle it, wrap the connecting rod with tape or glue and then reinsert back into the contact sprocket. Forget it!
I would love to recommend this mouse because it really does feel good in the hand and it is very comfortable to use, however due to all the problems we've experienced in the workplace with this mouse I have to give it "two thumbs down." Don't buy this mouse, but if you do - keep the receipt!
Customer Review: An excellent mouse Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this mouse because it feels good in the palm of my hand. I enjoy using it because it's accurate and dependable. It has a nice, quiet and solid click. Battery life is good. It's easy to use and if I wanted to take it with me, it folds. I gave it four rather than five stars because I would prefer it if it were a bit larger and somewhat more ergonomic. Don't get me wrong. It "is" ergonomic, which led me to buy it. But it could fill the hand a bit better. Having said that, it only takes a light hold on the mouse to navigate accurately so it's easy on the hand.
I love the idea they come in some great colors. I opted for black simply because it was on sale at the Microsoft store and black goes with my computer.
If you want a good, dependable wireless mouse that feels good in the hand, I recommend this one. And certainly if you need one to take with you on travels --- this would be ideal. As a side note, once you've used a wireless mouse, you'll not want to return to the wires.
I use this on a Windows 7, 64 bit machine.
Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Solid mouse for <$50 Summary: 5 Stars
Pros
------
+Excellent tracking accuracy. I used this mouse for intricate work in Illustrator, and it holds its own.
+Ergonomics are good for me, and I have very large hands
+The most satisfying "click" I've ever felt from a mouse
+Form factor is both attractive and practical
+USB dongle very small, although not the smallest in the industry. It protrudes slightly more than a centimeter.
+Luckily, the USB dongle is magnetic; and the magnetic force is strong enough that I'm not worried about losing it.
Cons
------
-Questionable placement of the lone programmable button. If I had smaller hands, this could be a significant issue
-Runs on 2xAAA batteries, rather than 1xAA battery, like some other mouses. Most likely, the svelte profile of the device necessitated the use of AAA's.
-The minimalistic design means no love for the ring and pinky fingers.
Conclusion
------
For $36, you'd be foolish not to purchase this mouse if you travel with your laptop. One of the best hardware purchases I've made in a while.
Customer Review: More substance than style. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this as a Valentine's Day gift. I wanted to get something different than your usual, generic looking mouse. My personal mouse is a Logitech MX518, a gaming mouse, so that's my frame of reference for this review.
Likes:
- Stylish shape. Makes an impression to friends.
- Laser tracking, 30 ft.
- The mouse feet (the black surface any mouse rides on) is very smooth like my Logitech MX518. Get a mouse pad to complement this.
- Folding ability.
- Magnetic holding area underneath the mouse for the wireless receiver.
- Comfortable.
- Simple plug in and immediately driver starts installing. Didn't bother with Microsoft mouse software.
- Comes with batteries and a little pouch.
Dislikes:
- The thumb button is out of reach making it impractical. My MX518 has two thumb buttons within easy reach. Maybe if you have large hands it'd work.
- Scroll wheel feels small compared to my MX518.
Overall:
- I like this a lot. I wouldn't necessarily use it for gaming, but for non-gamers, it's a great gift and mouse.
Customer Review: beautifully designed piece o' crap Summary: 1 Stars
it looks good. i'll give it that but if i could've given it a fractional % of one star, i would have. bought my first one for the office. seemed to work well so i bought two more - one for home and one for travel, which i do a lot of. as countless reviews note ( and i mean from cnet to pc review, not necessarily amazon ), the arc mouse has a known propensity to die after a very short time. like others, mine died too. same symptoms. just stopped working. i changed the batteries. battery light would glow green for less than a minute. went to microsoft's website for troubleshooting help. uninstalled and reinstalled software. uninstalled and reinstalled intellipoint. tried using each arc mouse on a different computer with the same results (still not working ). microsoft's final website advice was to call their 800 number. huge hassle. am out almost $150 (for all three ) with no relief/replacement/concern from microsoft. as another amazon reviewer has already said, shame on microsoft for continiung to sell this device given the known - and fatal - problems.
