Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Arc Mouse - Black

Customer Review: Superb mouse BUT scroll wheel will break even with gentle use!
Summary: 2 Stars

I don't abuse my devices and accessories, and I tried to protect this mouse as well. This mouse is extremely comfortable, and a great looking device - yes, even a computer mouse can have some serious style! The touch, accuracy, and ease in using this mouse has been great for the last several months.
But it finally broke, I couldn't tell if it was a battery problem, but everything else works fine - but the scroll wheel breaking is apparently a common problem amongst users.
If it were not for this seemingly small but incredibly aggravating problem, this would've been a five star review. Microsoft should fix this problem for free and come out with a better design on the scroll wheel, but no point in counting on Microsoft's warranty to get this mouse (especially for the price).

I doubt I still have that receipt.....but I would not recommend getting this mouse until Microsoft has addressed this issue!

UPDATE: So I called Microsoft and they will ship me a brand new one after a tech support call (make sure you have installed the software available on the website first to save you some time) in the next week or so. Still a hassle, and will probably break again, but it's a very comfortable mouse (the best).

Customer Review: A purely defective product at an exorbitant price.
Summary: 1 Stars

What I liked originally about the Arc Mouse was its battery life, and the design of the ergonomic arc that did serve a purpose. After three months of average use, the Scroll wheel broke completely, and the rubberized surface wears off, rendering the product ugly and useless.

The scroll wheel is designed to break, it's only a matter of time. One day yours will stop making the clicking noises you come to expect from it as you scroll, and if you try to use it to scroll, it will do nothing.

I purchased it when there were no reviews, using a big coupon to save on the crazy price, and that was a mistake. Thankfully it has a 3 year warranty, so I can get a replacement from Microsoft that will break just as fast. And I don't know if you've ever been forced to call Microsoft, but it is effectively a death sentence. You can't understand what they're saying (Big surprise there), the product # for the arc mouse doesn't exist (Look it up in their online support... Product NOT found), and they will not move in a quick pace to make your product return easy.

I recommend any similarly featured Logitech mouse over this, that was what I was forced to buy afterward, not to mention that it costs 3 times less.

Customer Review: I kinda like it, but I've had better... back button is pretty bad.
Summary: 3 Stars

The main reason I bought this mouse is a very silly reason: because I wanted a soft click mouse (apparently very hard to come by!). The Microsoft Mobile Mouse 4000 was my first choice for soft clicks, but the transceiver gets so hot it melts. So on to the Arc mouse! As for the comfort and tracking, it's fine, nothing special. It moves very quickly: even after slowing down the tracking speed, it's still a pain to click on certain small items. I'm not at all shaky, it's just very touchy because of its ergonomics. The main thing that annoys me to no end? The default back button is alllll the way near the top. Who has a such a freakishy long thumb? I even have longer hands than most women because of my height, and I still have to put forth the effort of clicking that button. I downloaded the software, and you can change what the buttons do. So I made the extra scroll 'button' the back button. But the button only clicks forward (slightly confusing when you want to go 'back'), and you have to click kind of hard. To sum it up, it's really just a pain if you're used to easy 'logi'cal things... So if you are used to having the back button readily available, and you're a little shaky, this may not be the mouse for you.

Customer Review: Comes with free beer...

I've read a lot of reviews saying the scroll wheel on this mouse fails, however I've had mine over a year now and it has never given me a second of trouble. In fact, I'm on here now to buy another because I like it so much I want one for the home and one for the office.
As far as the USB receiver goes, it sticks out about 1/2" plugged in, so anyone saying that's too far is just being ridiculous. The receiver stores nicely into the mouse via a magnet and the whole thing folds up to about 2". Battery life is excellent, I use mine 8-12 hrs a day and have changed my batteries once in the last year.
Now, the funniest part....everyone loves the look/feel of this mouse. Even a year later, I still get compliments from people about how "cool" the mouse looks and how good the action is and I must admit, it is the most comfortable and responsive wireless mouse I've ever used. Signal response at an average of 1-3 ft is as consistent as any wired mouse.
I suppose that, like anything, there have got to be bad batches out there and with enough people using them, sooner or later you'll find a dud but I have no hesitation in buying a 2nd mouse and you should have no hesitation in buying your first.

Customer Review: Fairly Good Out-of-the-Box (TM) Experience
Summary: 4 Stars

Overall, I like this mouse. It complements fashionable computers without being overpriced, so I don't think it's a PowerPoint marketing let-down.

PROS:

+ Compact - Sensitivity is adjustable from a default of airline tray table to average workspace.

+ Styln - Included pouch is like a large coin purse. It's magnetically closing with a swede-like finish.

NEITHER:

~ Software - **Not included**. Quick download for all platforms.

CONS:

- Gianormous transceiver - Can pickup satellite TV with this thing. 3/4" (20 mm) beyond the USB slot. I want to have to pry the the thing out and nearly lose it in the laundry like an iPod Shuffle. :) And they better be universal these days or fix Bluetooth.

- Underside construction - Battery door could've been a bit better but YGWYPF.

- Slightly unergonomic - Thumb and pinky might get a little tired, but that's the price you pay. C'est la vie.

UNKNOWN:

? Battery life - We'll see.

? PTFE sliding pads - We'll see.

? Hinge - How long will it last?
