Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Arc Mouse - Black

Customer Review: My new favorite mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this mouse. It's stylish (to me at least), comfortable, & works great. I bought this for my new laptop in November because I wanted a portable wireless mouse, but hate every tiny laptop mouse that I've tried. I like this mouse so much that I sometimes find myself using it with my desktop (which has it's own wireless mouse).

My brother was skeptical when I was ordering this mouse, but once he saw it in person & used it for a bit, he said that if he was going to buy a mouse that's not made by Apple, he'd get this one. Folded up, it's about 60% of the size of an average mouse; opened up it's about the same size as an average mouse, but a little higher at the center (due to the arc design). The magnet that holds the USB dongle in place works wonderfully & is on the underside of the folding half, so that it stows neatly inside when not in use.

I noticed one of the reviewers had a problem with the location of the side button. The placement of the button is perfect for me - it's far enough up that it doesn't get in the way or get clicked on accident, but I can still click it easily & comfortably when I need to (I once had a mouse where the side button was the entire length of the mouse...it was accidentally clicked so frequently that I disabled it)

If I ever need to replace my desktop mouse, I'll be getting another one of these.

Customer Review: Arc Mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

I am not a PC gamer, so I this review may not be useful to that demographic. I have only used this mouse for roughly 1.5 months and have not had to replace the supplied AAA batteries.
The mouse looks great, in my opinion. My mouse came in matte black, but I'm fairly certain I've seen one in white. The color makes me feel like Batman when I check my email.
I cannot comment on gaming performance or battery life. My only potential gripe about the mouse is that it comes with a USB wireless receiver. If my computer had Bluetooth functionality (which it doesn't because for some reason it hasn't been made standard on all computers yet), I'd probably prefer a Bluetooth mouse. The USB receiver can be stored in a magnetic slot under the mouse. It also comes with a storage pouch. I do not know what the material is made of, but it feels much nicer than the slip material (polypropylene) the Arc Keyboard comes with. The mouse has the standard left and right buttons, a scroll wheel and a third button whose only function I am aware of is 'Back' on a browser. This button is on the left side, which is great for those of us with a dominant right hand. Lefties can screw themselves. This mouse is wireless, which confused my grandma.
The mouse is turned off by folding it in half, like a cell phone from the late 90's.
I have no complaints about this mouse.

Customer Review: Compact and decent to use
Summary: 4 Stars

I really wasn't expecting the mouse to be so small, but it definitely is portable! While some of the qualms that other reviews wrote were true, it really depends on how much you're expecting out of the mouse.

For me, I went in expecting the mouse to:
1) Point and click
2) Be portable (folds up)
3) Smooth and precise mouse movement

With that in mind, I was satisfied and Microsoft actually exceeded my expectations. However, a few negatives:
The button (for righties) on the left side of the mouse requires you to move your hand closer to the top so your thumb can utilize the back button.
The track wheel isn't as responsive as I'd like it to, but that is adjustable via the Mouse Properties setting in the Control Panel.
The same also goes for the middle click button - it is customizable so you don't have the "Instant Viewer" for your browser.

Overall, the mouse is a tad bit more expensive than I'd preferred. However, it met and exceeded my expectations (above) and the program that YOU may or may not download helps improve the user experience for the mouse (through user customizations), at least for me. As far as another user stating that their mouse broke within a month... there is a THREE (3) year warranty on this, so there are no worries!

Customer Review: Broken Scroll Wheel = Useless Mouse
Summary: 2 Stars

I've had this mouse for about two weeks now and it's been working great up until yesterday, when the scroll wheel decided to give out. The thing only works when it clicks while moving, but doesn't click anymore, instead just rolling around quietly, which wouldn't be too bad, if it actually still scrolled.

The button itself still works though, so I can use it for its third mouse button function. After I found that it had the problem, I discovered that it only got worse when the button was pressed and turned until it stopped working altogether. If you ask me, that's a pretty hard issue to avoid, seeing as it's a notebook mouse - meant to be taken places and stored where something like that is probably happens quite often.

Other than that, the mouse is great. The response is very accurate, the button on the side is just perfect, even if it seems too small at first, and it does feel like a full-size mouse. It might take a little getting used to at first, but overall, it's a great mouse other than the issues >>as long as you have somewhat normal-sized hands, or slightly smaller<<

I'm willing to give this thing another chance with an exchange on the possibility that I got a defective mouse, but I somewhat doubt that. I'd say it's worth the effort though.

Customer Review: Excellent Buttons and LASER LOCATION!
Summary: 4 Stars

I have been searching for a mouse with a budget of $100. Was considering the logitech MX performance, or Microsoft 6000 before I tried this..

+ LASER LOCATION:
I am a laptop user and used to keeping my wrist in on location and move the end of my hand to make the mouse move (like on a laptop touch pad). I like the logitech MX performance but the laser is placed closer to the center of the mouse resulting in the movement not be linear to my movement.
This Arc mouse has the laser located towards the top wich mimics my movement on the laptop much better.

+ BUTTONS:
I hate the loud buttons on the desktop mouses by Microsoft and Logitech, I like the buttons on this mouse. They provide a feedback feeling but no annoying "click" noise.

+ Texture
I purchased the black mouse which has a nice texture to it when using the mouse

I have not had this long enough to observe battery life, and this is mainly for my desktop setup so I will not be able to test the durability of the folding of the mouse.

As a side note, The keyboard I chose was the logitech illuminated keyboard (NOT CORDLESS) since that had the nicest scissor-switch keys, once again I like the laptop feel I am used to.
