Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Microsoft Arc Mouse - BlackCustomer Review: Looks great - However,, it will break down.... Summary: 1 Stars
I'm on my third Microsoft Arc mouse and just as the other two, it failed! The first mouse, the scroll went out in a matter of weeks...I kept using it anyway without the scroll and then one day for absolutely no apparent reason I turned on my notebook and the Microsoft arc mouse just wouldn't work, the green light on the mouse would go on, telling me the batteries were fine and the mouse itself was functional...so it had to be the USB receiver that didn't work, because I had no signal to my notebook...
My second Microsoft arc mouse. after a month I had the same problem with the USB receiver.
Unfortunately, you can't buy or use another receiver to replace the one not receiving the signals...each USB is for a specific arc mouse.
Now I'm on my third mouse and the scroll just went out after just over a month of moderate use, as I write this review.
The Arc mouse looks great, and I really wanted it to be my mouse for a long, long time, it has some nice features like the folding function of the mouse. The attractive tiny USB receiver doesn't get in the way and it's powerful & fast...(when it works).
As far as battery life, I wouldn't know....None of the Microsoft arc moues that I owned ever lasted longer than a couple of months without having to toss the arc mouse in my drawer because they all failed in one way or another.
But what good is a great looking, great feeling mouse when it breaks so quickly, and all you have left is this great looking arc mouse sitting in some drawer because it broke almost immediately, and then one can't get a new USB receiver for it, nor get the scroll repaired because of the cost? (Who would have repaired it anyway)?
When the Microsoft arc mouse does work, it works well, on all surfaces...However, there is one design screw-up on it, as you may already know about, it's the front left side button...Useless! Simply, because it's so far up the side of the mouse...bad design location on this (back page) button.
However, since the arc mouse is completely unreliable I would suggest that you carry a back-up mouse, if your on the road because you never know when something will not function on the arc mouse when you most need it....and again, the worst part is nothing that breaks down is replaceable...you have to just toss out the whole arc mouse or keep it for parts. I suppose as mentioned, one can't use another arc mouse with another Microsoft arc mouse USB receiver....
A real drag since I do love the way it looks, feels and when it working properly, functions.
Note: I bought a Chinese "knock-off" version arc mouse...which makes it my fourth arc mouse (3 Microsofts)...But the Chinese version is much worst than the Microsoft version...It doesn't work on all surfaces and good or bad it has no "back" button on it at all...I don't know how long the scroll will last on the Chinese version, nor the USB receiver, because I just don't care for the Chinese version arc mouse and never use it....
So instead I decided to go with a very reliable Logitech Nano notebook mouse and I love it, stylish in it's own way...but not like the unreliable, yet sexy style of the arc mouse....
If I were advising.....I'd wait until Microsoft's new version of the Arc Mouse comes out, because with this one the cost of the arc mouse just doesn't justify how fast the arc mouse breaks down....I'm sure there will be a newer, more reliable and more expensive Microsoft arc mouse sometime soon.
