I have bought and used this light several times over the last few years, and it can prove very useful. The light is bright enough to illuminate most situations where I unexpectedly need a flashlight, and the battery life is reasonable. It's small, attaches to my keys, and stays easily in my pocket. However, there are several problems.
First is the price. As of this writing it is about $40 (when adding shipping). This is about 4 times more expensive than it should be for such a small and disposable device. Also, the switch is prone to breaking off. Sometimes I can put it back on myself and continue to use the light, but when I can't the device is dead for good. Customer service, as of February 2010, is non-existent at Brookstone. The compact size is nice, but also causes problems with battery wear. The light has two "on" modes. One is a "continuous on", whereby the switch slides upwards and stays, thus leaving the light on. The other is "pressure mode", whereby the light comes on when you push down on the switch. Unfortunately, the switch is so sensitive that I am constantly inadvertently leaving the light on. So if I'm fortunate enough to keep the switch working at all, it will needlessly drain the battery. When the battery is dead there is no reasonable way to install a new one.
I'm embarrassed that I bought this item more than once, but a little effort by Brookstone could turn this around. Given Brookstone's recent financial trouble, I'm not holding my breath.
