Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Targus Digital TG-BGD40 Battery Grip for Nikon D40/D40x/D60Customer Review: ATTENTION D3000 USERS!!! Summary: 5 Stars
IT WORKS PERFECT ON THE D3000!!!! IT FEELS GREAT & LOOKS PROFESSIONAL, WHEN YOU FIRST GET IT OUT OF THE PACKAGE yOU MIGHT BE DISSAPOINTED BUT...DONT BE...IT FEELS CHEAP(WELL ITS ONLY $30) BUT DON'T LET THAT GET TO YOU. YOU EEL FEEL THE DIFFERENCE WHEN ATTACHED TO THE CAMERA BODY...IT IS WORTH IT...NOTE: IN ORDER TO USE THE VERTICAL SHUTTER YOU NEED TO GO TO THE REMOTE SETTINGS IN YOUR D3000 & SWITCH TO QUICK REMOTE...I advised you to go to the link I put in here on youtube and watch that video it is very helpful(thanks god for reviews!!!!) Customer Review: Serves many purposes effectively Summary: 5 Stars
I shoot with a Nikon D2X, and I use my D40 as a back-up body. I needed it to not only "look" more professional, but also have a larger area for my hand to hold, so that my whole hand is on the grip, and not just half my hand. The Targus serves both purposes -- it fits just right, looks perfect, and makes the camera look and feel more like my D2X. I'm a professional wedding photographer...well worth the $50 I paid for it (for some reason, it costs $99 at Wal-Mart, but I found the on-line purchase through Amazon for $49.99.)
Customer Review: It definitely adds more comfort to an already comfortable camera body Summary: 4 Stars
I am very pleased with my purchase. I thought that once I received the grip that I would be attaching and detaching more regularly based upon my shooting situation. But I have actually been leaving it on. It is very comfortable and the camera feels even more stable in my grasp. My pinky finger now has a home! It works with one battery if you want it strictly for the benefit of the grip. Another cool thing about this product is that it comes with an insert that allows you to six rechargeable AA batteries.
Customer Review: It's a tight fit... Summary: 4 Stars
The grip is a great value. I did have a problem when first installing the grip because there are 2 little plastic tab guides at the base of the battery insert... at first I could not get the insert to push all the way into the camera because of these tabs, but after applying a little more pressure and minding how the insert/tabs would fit, the grip securely attaches to the D40.
I like the unit and it works as expected. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a battery grip w/ great value.
Customer Review: Great product and worked as advertised. Summary: 5 Stars
I really have nothing to add to all the great reviews. However everyone complaining about infrared mode for shooting vertical needs to realize it is not a battery grip problem. The problem lies in that Nikon did not create the D40/D40x/D60 with a battery grip in mind. There is no other way for them to do vertical with these cameras, its just not an option. I find it a rather ingenious way of getting around the battery grip problem and lets face it, tossing in two batteries is great for extended shoots.
