Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Targus Digital TG-BGD40 Battery Grip for Nikon D40/D40x/D60Customer Review: Great addition to Nikon D60 Summary: 5 Stars
I already had an extra battery before buying this grip....and having just received it, it definitely is more convenient not having to swap batteries when one dies. Also, I'm getting complements from friends/family saying that my camera looks more professional now.
I haven't played (or set up) the other shutter release button so I can't comment on that.
Finally, the D60 is naturally smaller than the more expensive dSLRs but with this battery grip attached, it's feels more natural holding the camera as if it was designed to form fit my hands. Therefore, I'm noticing that I'm taking more pictures lately....That's a good thing right?
Customer Review: It fits the Nikon D3000 Summary: 5 Stars
I have the Nikon D3000 and fit it with a Nikor 18-200mm lens. So it was kind of unbalanced when I hung it over my neck. The weight of the lens make it faced downward naturally.
There was no known battery grip for the D3000 but after doing my research from reviews of other battery grip users, I gathered that the D3000 body is about the same as the D40 and D60. So I took a calculated risk and purchased this grip.
When I fitted it the first time, it is a wonderful fit. Now when I carry it over my neck, I feel the balance. I have a great feel in holding the D3000 with the grip.
For all who have the D3000, this grip works.
Customer Review: Great addition for the price Summary: 5 Stars
As has been said before, this grip is an amazing addition to any D40 or D60. The camera is so much more comfortable to hold and use with the grip attached. The grip weighs next to nothing, and truley makes the camera feel lighter because of how much nicer it is to hold the camera. I do wish that Nikon had made it so that the grip could have a normal shutter release, that being said, Targus did a great job of using creating the IR shutter release button on this grip. For taking portraits, it is quite easy to get used to not focusing halfway and just pressing the button all the way. I would highly recommend this product to anyone with a D40 or D60.
Customer Review: Great idea - poor execution. Summary: 2 Stars
Unless your looking for just extra battery life - look at another grip. This grip works on the principal of using the IR to activate the shutter. There seems to be either too quick or too slow of an action depending on how you set your camera. It's really nothing more that the remote control you can buy. The button press is very "odd" - no depress just slightly push. You also cannot auto focus by pressing the button half way down. Once you push it - your committed to the picture. I returned the item for this principal. As a grip it is very comfortable in your hand. The extra battery life is great. Does not fit in my case.
Customer Review: Definately a bargain worth taking. Summary: 5 Stars
It took me some time to decide whether to purchase this or not. But I am glad I did. When I received it I was surprised at how light it was and how well it fit with the camera. But the best feature is how well it fits in my hand. It definitely helps with holding the camera and the fact it holds two batteries in it is a huge plus! I have had this for three weeks and have taken more than 3500 photos and still have 25% or better in the batteries.
If you're looking for an economical battery grip instead of the name brands that cost a hundred or more, then this is it. I can't say much more than it is worth the money.
