Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex CD/DVD Keepers (50-Pack, Plastic Sleeves)

Customer Review: Terrible Product, ruins DVD it is expected to protect
Summary: 1 Stars

I was so mad after spending hours of capturing home VHS movies and putting them on DVD's only to have these colored plastic sleeves leave a residue that would result in the DVD not being readable. After about 6 months of storage (normal room temperature, stacked vertically) the sleeves would stick slightly to the DVD. After removing from the sleeve, you could see the residue on the DVD. I've tried 10 different solvents in an attempt to clean w/o ruining the DVD. No luck. This stuff is really adhered to the surface. And after contacting Memorex, they offered no additional help. I am amazed this product is still on the market. Many plastics have chemicals that bleed to the surface. One would have thought they would have covered this base in the design of these sleeves. I've since been using the paper sleeves with great success. A after 2 years storage, no problems. I've lost my confidence in Memorex products because I'm sure they're aware of this problem, but yet they still sell it. I bought it to "protect" my DVD, only to be blind-sided.

Customer Review: A WASTE OF RESOURCES & ENERGY. NOT RECOMMENDED!
Summary: 1 Stars

I cannot NOT recommend this product highly enough.

They are crap. As stated in previous reviews, these envelopes will indeed leach or transfer some sort of residue or offgas product onto your discs, rendering movies and music useless.

I bought at least a COUPLE HUNDRED of these a few years ago, in an attempt to save storage space. HUGE mistake. Awhile back, we noticed music and movies with this 'stuff' on them. Much of our library (not massive by any means, but numbering quite a few boxed PBS, Charlie Chan, and other expensive series) has been ruined by these gawd-awful wastes of petroleum resources. Now in the process of reviewing our discs to see what can be salvaged, and what will have to be thrown away. Not fun.

I wish someone with pockets deeper than mine would file a lawsuit against Memorex, to halt the sale of this defective product, and reimburse customers who have lost/damaged property due to negligence of this company.

Customer Review: Strongest possible warning, whatever you do, do not buy this item!
Summary: 1 Stars

This horrific product leaves an insidious, foglike residue on your disks that is nearly impossible to remove destroying your expensive computer games, data backups and DVD's.

Leached out by the obviously inferior pigmentation that is used to color these sleeves, in many cases the thin superglue-like residue causes discolorations on the disks that can only be fully removed by automobile rubbing compound or rubbing alcohol mixed with toothpaste, both of which leave millions of fine scratches in the residue's place.

In the case of baking soda, you can simply no longer see the discolaration any longer due to the many scratches that cleaning a DVD with baking soda causes.

Customer Review: Sleeves will ruin discs
Summary: 1 Stars

DO NOT USE THESE SLEEVES for any extended period of time. As documented by others the chemicals from the plastic sleeve will leach unto your disks and make them incredibly difficult to clean without damaging and will very likely ruin many of them.

It is unbelievable that Memorex is still acting like they have never heard of this problem since there is clear documentation here that the problem dates back to at least 2007. They should have developed an easy chemical cleaning solution by now.

I can't believe that Memorex is still selling these sleeves, which are known to be faulty.

Customer Review: I'd give this zero stars if I could.
Summary: 1 Stars

I switched to these plastic sleeves to save space and because I liked that they were transparent and came in different colors. My experience with them is the same as the other reviewer's. The residue that these sleeves left on some of my CDs is really hard to get off; I actually came to Amazon to see if there were any reviews that included tips on how to get this stuff off. It's almost like the plastic MELTED on my CDs. It didn't affect all of my CDs, but it did affect many of them--maybe 20 to 25 percent. I can't believe anyone really sells these--they work so badly!
