Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Memorex 8.5Gb/ 2.4x DVD+R Dual Layer (25-Pack Spindle)

Customer Review: Superior Dual Layer DVD with 90% success rate
Summary: 4 Stars

I needed some DL DVDs and after looking for a long time, I found these. The low price was great and so I purchased them. I used free shipping that was supposed to take 2 to 3 weeks and I received them in about 1 week. I opened the package and took out a DVDs. The dvd top had a memorex logo and the bottom was blue. I burned a 8gb DVD, then I burned another one and so on. I used about 10 or 11 DVDs so far and only 1 of them gave me a problem. This is a good purchase for the money. I rated the DVDs a 4 because it would be better if the DVDs had no writing on the top of them.

Customer Review: Works with all of my DVD burners without fail
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my third 25-pack of these Memorex DVD+R DL discs that I am purchasing because I need the dual layer 8.5GB capacity and I have used them with three different DVD burners on different computers each time with excellent success. I have not been able to find dual layer DVD's at this price point. I might go the extra $$$ for higher reviewed DVD's if I need to make sure that a particular DVD has good archive time, but for basic stuff, this DVD+R DL has worked very well for me! A friend also bought a 15 pack from an outside store and is having equal success.

Customer Review: Working fine after a few tries
Summary: 4 Stars

I had some issues with my first few tries burning dual layer discs on my Memorex external DVD burner. It mostly came down to software problems, which I sorted out after some time. Then, as a previous reviewer stated, I needed to change the booktype to DVD-ROM. After changing the booktype I was able to successfully burn dual layer discs that were playable on my stand alone DVD player. It's my understanding that setting the booktype to DVD-ROM is recommended to increase recognition of DVD+R, DVD+RW, and DVD+R DL discs in older DVD players.

Memorex is crap. Absolute garbage. Fourteen of the twenty-five discs were un-burnable (on a 6 month old MacBook). I've heard of similar problems with Memorex but bought anyway because of the price. I won't ever again. Once I bought a 3 pack from an office supply store and 1 of the 3 was bad. I don't understand how Memorex can continue to get away with selling this junk! Don't be suckered by the price. Read the reviews here and elsewhere on the web.

Have already bought Verbatim.

Customer Review: Avoid buying these!
Summary: 1 Stars

Being a tech savvy person, with a new DL DVD drive, I was happy when these were buy one/get one at a local store, so I ended up with 2 packages.

After 5 attempts, I have 5 coasters.

Yes I have a dual layer burner.
Yes I know how to burn them.

These things are just AWFUL, do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy them -- unless you want a few new sets of coasters, in which case, I'm sure Amazon has a great selection at a MUCH cheaper price.
